Building cabinet with TV

Hi all.

I'm currently planning to build a non-mame cabinet
with a TV as monitor.
My question is do I need anything else besides the tv,
jamma harness, pcb's, cp and a switching power supply?

Urrm, i don't know how well this'd work.  Does your tv have RGB input?  If not, you might have a little trouble.  If you have a solution to this, then more power to you.  Also, i think this whould receve a better awnser in the video forum.

Seven7: I live in europe, so my tv has a rgb scart.

  you could use an rgb convertor although i'm not sure they make them for scart or not. here is a link to the ntsc version though if it helps at all http://www.twobits.com/RGB/

I believe there is some product called the "JROK" that converts pcb output to tv input, you could do a search and probably find information.

I've found schematics for making a convertor that connects
to my rgb scart, don't have the url for it right now but.

I'll check that up also, thnx.

My question was more along the lines if you need an isolation
transformator, ac-filter, and so on as posted on the website
above.
Wouldn't want to fry my cab

  you should get the mods to move this post to the monitor section. if you are using a tv i don't think you need an iso transformer but if you get this post moved kenlayton can help you out. here is a link for the jrok converter http://www.jrok.com/hardware/RGB.html

The way to go seems to be to connect the tv as a regular tv to a wall socket, and also the switching power supply.
And then the pcb to the power supply.

And just get some sort of surge protection on the switching power supply. Hopefully this will work...

It seems that you will need a chassis, the difference betwee our normal TV and arcade machine is the chassis, replace your TV chassis with the arcade ones, then it will be okay, I think.

When using a TV, here is the video quality based on the input:

RGB Scart (Best)
Component (Very Good)
S-Video (Good)
Component (Poor)
RF via a TV Channel Modulator - Often Channel 3 or 4 (Very Poor)

 Interesting....So what would the max resolution be with the RGB scart setup..curious as i have a Loewe 76cm TV with scart input 100khz.. Could I get 800x600 directly from a standard video card? or would I use the AVGA card. Currently have it setup through a MKII, jpac, AVGA. going to convert it back to dedicated MkII ( 10 mins) and build a dedicated mame cab (unlimited years ) and this would save me a lot of money using a scart Tv. Does this work well? Thanks !

Not sure what the max resolution is - this depends on your card and TV I suspect.

You will need some software called Powerstrip which allows you to select resolutions and refresh rates not normally offered with the standard driver.

NOTE : I have tried and tested this with an ATI Radeon card but can't say if other cards work or not.
