The irony of this "sticky" thread is that since it's "stickied" at the top, I missed it completely many times over.

And judging from the low number of times it's even been clicked on, I'd guess that I'm not alone.   

Four of the current 39 hits to this thread have been from me and I'm sure that Arcadiac has been responsible for multiple hits as well.

Hurricane Relief
Big John & Ray want you to help them with Hurricane Relief! Sunday, September 4th starting at 10 am bring non-perishable items.... Food supplies, toiletries, clothing, blankets, tents, etc. to Augustino's Deli in West Chicago. It's on the coner of North Ave and Route 59. Our friends from Catom Trucking are donating an 18 wheeler to haul the supplies down south to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina! See you there at 10!

They said on the radio the trucking company will send another truck if we can fill this one.

A few of those clicks have been me, I just haven't bothered to post. But, yes, I've donated to the Red Cross and I urge everyone else here to do the same.

If you just can't find a few nickels to scrape together to send down there, and you've already mailed 'em your pot to pee in, since they dont' have 'em, head down to the local blood bank, and give blood.  There is currently a shortage of blood platelet supply, which are only good for about 5 days.  I promise, you can't hate needles more than I do (I can easily get myself to pass out if I watch 'em do it), and it seriously doesn't hurt more than a second or two.

Already donated $30...It's not a whole lot, but we should give what we can to assist fellow Americans.  I can't give blood, but I'll certainly tell my friends to do so.

Yep...  I'll be giving blood after the 14th.  I'd give sooner, but you have to wait 60 days between donations.  This is a great way to help, it doesn't cost you anything, and you get free snacks!

i'd donate blood everyday if they came to my house.  i just can never find the right ward at the hospital.  i'm always in the wrong place at the wrong time and whenever i got free time, they've moved to another place.

Note to users: This list is not complete. Medical professionals are available at each blood collection center and details of each donor's health and activities are discussed in a confidential setting prior to blood donation. The final determination of eligibility is made at that time. Some donor eligibility rules are specified by the Food and Drug Administration for every blood bank in the country. Other rules are determined by the particular blood bank and may differ between programs. Donor eligibility rules are intended to protect the health and safety of the donor as well as the patient who will receive the transfusion. The criteria listed below are provided as guidelines to assist you in determining whether you may be eligible to be a blood donor. The guidelines listed below were last revised on 3/21/05. There may have been some changes to these criteria since the last revision date. The most up to date eligibility information can be obtained by contacting the American Red Cross blood center nearest you.

GENERAL GUIDELINES
To give blood for transfusion to another person, you must be healthy, be at least 17 years old or 16 years old if allowed by state law, weigh at least 110 pounds, and not have donated blood in the last 8 weeks (56 days). "Healthy" means that you feel well and can perform normal activities. If you have a chronic condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure, "healthy" also means that you are being treated and the condition is under control.

Other aspects of each potential donor's health history are discussed as part of the donation process before any blood is collected. Each donor receives a brief examination during which temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood count (hemoglobin or hematocrit) are measured.
