1080i capable HDTV as Arcade monitor?

I have been looking at this for a couple of months:


Samsung 27" Flat-Tube HD-Ready TV with 1080i Capable Display

About $100 cheaper than most arcade monitors and more capable as far as specs go.   

I am thinking about coupling this with a newer ATI card and ATI's component video adapter.

Comments?   Suggestions?

WHA?!?! High-Def TVs have reached the sub-$1000 mark?!?! When did this happen? Holy cow!! I want one!

I have a panasonic 1080i capable 100hz set, and I dont know if its the xbox or the tv, but it will always do a 16:9 squish when input with 1080i from the xbox. this cant be turned off with the aspect button on the remote and would make it useless for mame since its not widescreen.

There's almost no point to HD on a 27" screen.  Only a person with 20/20 vision standing a couple feet away would be able to tell a difference between that and a good S video picture.

Accordign to the BestBuy Rep (not that I actually consider him an expert)  all of the HD modes do the 16x9 "squish.   Hmmm I may just get one and play around.....there's gotta be a way.  If not, its HDTV for my Home Theatre.....Seems a Win win for me (if the wife dosen't kill me.)

HDTVs are helpful to be able to read the windows desktop.  Especially when installing software, updating virus/firewall, and regular windows and software maintenance. Aspect Ration probs? I dunno, the TV should have 4:3, 4:3 expanded, and 16:9.  See pole position on an HDTV at http://www.carnine.net/mame
