I'm getting this pinball!
« on: August 28, 2005, 09:52:08 pm »
I'm in debt up to my eyeballs with my parents with all the MAME money, but some how, I am bidding on this. Its a Star Trek ('79, Bally) on eBay, operational, with a good playfield and a near perfect backglass. And its within 100 of my house. It ends in two days, and unless it goes over $500, it will be mine!

Then I'd take the backglass to my next convention, and get it signed by whoever's left alive.

Cool. From what I've read, Bally SS's are the easiest to diagnose. Apparently it needs a new molex connector somewhere, the fluippers need to be rebuilt, and one of the pops needs a new ring. I've rebuilt a flipper before, but on an EM Williams machine

The bad connectors are usually on the power supply board neext to the transformer.

Is this an issue that replacing the connector pins with better pins would solve?

In my opinion I wouldn't even bother fixing the original power supply. Instead you should buy the much superior "Dual Plug PCB" replacement power supply board with connectors. You get it from www.repairconnection.com and it's worth every penny of the price. I've installed a couple of them in old Bally pins and it really makes a big difference---no more power related problems and all the lights in the game are nice and bright again (like they should be).

No, I think its worth the price to repair. I can't be spending so much money on parts right now, if I even get it

Then do the power supply board mods on marvin3m.com

Personally, there are so many design problems/deficiencies in the original power supply board I would just buy the new replacement board.

I had one of those for a very brief time.

Was told it had a bad power supply. I got a replacement directly from an insider at Midway. Installed it. Turned on power. Machine worked for all of 2 minutes. Then something probably blew/burnt out, whatever...

I gave up and sold the damn thing for $75

I would have the money to buy the board, but then I couldn't afford the pin. I just have to wait and see how high it goes

I figured it wasn't you ...the same bidder that won the Star Trek pin also bought these shoes off ebay last week...funny what you learn about people when you look at what they've bought on ebay.
