Sloppy soldering on LOPT
« on: August 28, 2005, 10:56:23 am »
Installing my capkit today, and I've noticed some previous work has been done - 1 or 2 capacitors replaced, and what looks like the LOPT might have been replaced. All of the LOPT's solder joints are brown and very sloppily done with solder spilling off the sides ... Could this be causing the problem with the monitor? (Sync?) If not, if the capkit doesnt fix it, what else?

EDIT: Sorry, forgot the model :D Hantarex MTC 9000 20"

Hantarex's are very particular about sync signals. If you have composite negative sync. Only connect it to the negative horiz sync input on the monitor.

Hantarex's are well known for needing lots of capacitors. I wouldn't be surprised if you had to install 28 to 32 of them on this chassis. That brown stuff on the flyback terminals is rosin soldering flux that somebody didn't clean off. To clean the crap off of there, use 99% rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab.

Yeah I've checked all the wiring before, with jamma and the dedicated system with 4 different boards which leads me to think its a hardware problem (capkit, ic2 etc.)
I just finished installing the capkit (11 out of 19 capacitors .. the other 8 werent compatible with my board, neither was the cap chart though. Even though I got a mtc 9000 cap kit..) and will triple check the polarity on them again tomorrow before power on - I'll post here what happens.. And also if I need any more help with the sync problem
