ATTN!!! ALL XBOX CAB BUILDERS!!!
« on: August 27, 2005, 02:22:02 am »
Hey guys,

I am in the process of building an arcade cabinet based on the XBOX console. What I really want from all of you is the setup you are using.

I wan't to know how you interfaced your custom built controls with the XBOX. And wether or not it allowed you to use the L/R triggers, White/Black buttons, and Start/Select.

Pics are the best way to show me, along with a breif description. But I really have yet to find a good way to interface my CP with something that supports all of the buttons.

Pressure sensetivity does not matter to me at all. As long as I can set it to 100% all the time and its not just stuck on 0%.

Thanks for all the help guys!!!

ps. CP is 2-player: 1 joystick (happs comp) per player, and 10 microswitch buttons per player. X,Y,A,B,L,R,Bl,Wh,St,Sel.

I was hoping not to have to hack a digital controller.   ;D

That kind of sucks not having the L/R support, but honestly...

I can't think of any arcade cab friendly Xbox games that really require the use of them, that don't also include button remapping.

The only thing that would suck, is if you wanted a 4 button layout for use with neo-geo games. Putting any of the main buttons out of their standard arrangement, so as to be in a 4 button layout would be pretty awkward when playing an actual Xbox title.

I am a little confused as to your problem thoguh.

Is it just that you do not want to go buy another controller for the hack?

You can get some really cheap 3rd party controllers, especially if you grab a used one, and you can gut and hack them extremely easy, and have support for all the buttons if you'd like.

I can snap some pics a bit later, here's the run down on how I have my console cab controls configured.

I purchased an Xarcade BYOA kit (not the panel) $60 and xbox adapter $20 and it supports all the buttons including black, white, triggers and the regular buttons. It supports the D-Pad in the native configuration. It will support the analog control (thumb sticks) by pressing the MODE button that is pre-wired off of the BYOA unit.

If you want to add another console to the same cab it is as simple as purchasing the PS2, Gamecube, Dreamcast adapter and either switching the cables or you can do as I did with a DB25 data switch (4 port) and use some serial to DB25 adapters and you can switch between consoles with the push of a button or the turn of a knob.

Oh yeah the BYOA kit comes with a USB interface to use it with a PC as well.

Works well in MAME, works great on all consoles.

 Hi Goz,

I was actually really looking into the X-arcade kit. BUT... The only problem I ran into was figuring out how my custom panel would interface with the X-arcade. everything I read, was on using their panel, and I couldn't find an actual photo of the x-arcade.

If you could clue me in on how I would go about hooking it up to my panel via a photo or a description, that would be the disco. Is it similar to the IPAC?

Thanks Guys!

Think of it being more like the mini-pac. It has a series of harness' that connect to controls and buttons with dedicated grounds for each zone of controls.

You can see a pretty decent schematic of it here
The Xarcade harness's come with quick disconnects already on them. So it's really a 10 -15 minute thing to wire a control panel.

I'll try to get a pic tonight.

I have some xbox PCBs for 25.00 each shipped.  No L or R though...

I haven't had to use yet.

I cant seem to get a decent pic to take that would really explain it any more than I have described. Using the PDF I posted you simply connect to the switches on your buttons and joys. To switch between analog and digital mode you simply press a button.
