The top loader alone is worth more than $80.  Awesome.

People say that, then they drag you up to their attic, make you dig through boxes of their incontinent grandma's hoarded underpants, to uncover one NES with the door broken off, a copy of SMB, and a Zapper that looks like it was used for colon cancer exams.

Except that this stuff is in MINT condition. I mean, everything is where its supposed to be, there's no "yellowing" or aging on any of th grey plastic, THESE THINGS LOOK BRAND SPANKING NEW! All games have original documentation and instruction manuals and are in perfect condition. None of the cartridges have missing stickers or scratches.

Its getting harder and harder to find decent hardware anymore.

You guys should go to yard sales. I'm not into it, and got into emulation so I could play the oldies without all the hardware lying around.
My buddy likes the hardware and is into collecting  everything from 2600's on up. He has multiple Genesis, NES (and a couple of the toploaders), Intellevisions, and even wacky stuff like Studio II's. He regularly buys working 8 bit systems for 15 bucks with a huge box of games.

Anyone shelling out $80 for a Nintendo toploader is a megasucker.  ;)

You just described me as well... though now that everyone thinks their crap is worth Ebay prices, it's harder and harder to find decent games and hardware at yard sale prices.

I could care less that its a toploader. The games are in pristine condition, physically and playability. For the prices of stuff I've seen sell on eBay, I could easily get my money back, probably more, but I'm not thinking of making money right now. Maybe I bought it because I wanted to catch up on all the years I missed, never owning a console. Most of that time I spent in the arcade because my parents couldn't afford a NES at the time. I don't know, but there's just something about playing the old hardware that beats out an emu.

I didn't mean that to sound like an insult to you M3talhead.
My buddy told me he buys the Toploaders for 15 dollars with games, then sells them for 50 bucks on Ebay. Says they are desirable because they don't suffer from the regluar NES problem of the contacts where the cartridge slot pushes down in.

I was just suggesting that if the people buying them on Ebay would get their heads out of the computers and take a 15 minute drive around to yard sales, they could get a hell of a lot more for their money.

I used to hit several hundred yard sales a year.  Not once did I find a toploader.  Dozens of NES every year but not a single toploader.

The toploader does have a better cart connector, but it also has an inferior video signal.

I've never seen a toploader at a garage sale or a flea market either. I prefer the toaster style anyway.

I have given up completely on NES consoles.  I've tried to clean up too many, replaced too many connectors, they never work 100% no matter what you do.

More often than not I play NES games on my DC via emulation these days. It's just easier than futzing around with the stupid cart connector.

Wierd. My buddy goes to a few every Saturday and I think he has found 3 of them this year. They're unusual because the NES was pretty much dead by the time they came out, but they're out there.

I just spent a couple of days making a console DVD. Has 2600/Intellivision/ColecoVision/Atari 5200/7800/Sega Master System/NES/Genesis and SNES on it. Went through and eliminated all the dupes, thousands of crap hacks of Sonic, Mario and Zelda, public domain games and demos.

Basically I just left the US stuff and good Japanese and Euro stuff that never came to the US. Its under 3 gig total, and that's going to be the set that goes on my cab.

I've got 4 original NES decks that don't work. I know there's a 5th floating around my closet somewhere, but I can't find it...

Yeah.

They don't have hte ZIF connector, so they make better contact to start with.
And they don't have the lockout chip, so the blinking screen of death is impossible.

On the downside, the image quality isn't as nice as the toasters.

Great haul man!  Don't let anyone pee on your parade, enjoy!  ;D
I feel the same way about my old records and turntable.  I could replace it all with cd's/mp3s but there is nothing quite like putting the record on the turntable and the needle in the groove to hear those well-loved scratchy tunes!
It's part of the ritual that matters.
Takes me back, good times!

the manuals might add 2 bucks to each game's worth, but don't expect more than 3 or 4 for any of those games.  i've been to about 10 garage sales and all i see is 15 inch monitors/tvs, clothes, books, loose board games, etc.  i found a cracked nintendo for 10 once.

A lot of those games would sell as high as $8 because they're good games.

Doesn't really matter, though, as he is going to do the smart thing and keep/play the hell out of them.

on ebay, 90% of nes games sell for a buck.  maybe wild gunman and kid icarus will go for 2 or so.  the toploader is the best part of the deal.

Nothing sells on ebay for a buck.  A $1 item is a $6.50 item once you tack on shipping.

Thus, the buyer is willing to pay $6.50 for that game.
