Dreamcast Operation Question (mine quit working)
« on: August 23, 2005, 11:32:03 pm »
I bought a used Dreamcast from EB Games.  It played fine for a week.  Today it just stopped recognizing game discs.  All of them.  It doesn't appear to be spinning the discs at all when inserted.

I didn't get a manual with this, so I need to know - do you have to turn off the DC when you change games?  Does anyone know why it would just stop working?

Yes you should shut off the power between switching games. Especially avoid removing disks while they are spinning or stopping them from spinning manually. This will cause the laser to become out of alignment and to not recognize disks. Luckily they are inexpensive enough to replace the whole unit. $20 fom eb aint bad.... Last time I purchased a used system from eB Games it came with I think a 2 week warranty. You might consider going that route. If they are sold out let me know I have a spare and could sell it to you for that price as well.

Thanks Gozur.  I checked EB Games' website and they are currently out of DC's.  I would certainly like to buy your spare if you are willing to sell it.

And yes, your's be crossing the big pond....Airmail style...with a few extra goodies inside so you can "test" upon its arrival.

I hope you put a fist to your brother.  People should learn to respect other people's property.  Especially blood relatives.

heh, I dont remember, but I doubt I did. I usually just yell at him, and tell him not to touch my stuff ever again.

BTW, I meant to say "mad" not "made" :)

That would be false..

DC was designed to be opened while running, thats why it STOPS THE DISC and GOES TO THE MENU when you take a disc out..

14 days is EB policy, take it back and ---smurfette---..

Nothing false about the statement reguarding stopping / removing the disk while it is spinning.
