Mamewah Config 1.61 and categories and filtering roms
« on: August 22, 2005, 10:23:27 pm »
I must be retarded.  ALL I want to do is remove and categorize games into like 5 game lists.  I can get it to work using the description field BUT I don't think that is what I want.  In the catver.ini it lists categories like *mature*.  I can't for the life of me get it to recognize mature.  I see a "category" field but it does nothing and filters nothing even after I've imported the latest catver.ini.  Someone tell me how to filter using catver.ini IN mamewah config.  It seems straightforward but I must be missing something.  Its driving me crazy. I've got to get this thing figured out tonight as its due for a Birthday tomorrow.  I dont have any hair left to pull!
I don't want to have to manually remove some of these games as I am setting up a box for use with kids.  IE no mature and maybe some other categories like puzzle, casino etc.

If there's an easier way to do it that would be helpful as well.
Any help here?

Umm MCM (Mame Content Manager) can remove/rename roms based on categories like mature, tabletop, casino, etc. if that helps.

Ok YES this will work for the mature roms.  But I also want to have five lists with them categorized into Baseball, Shooters etc.

The Mamewah config interface works perfectly for that  Except it doesn't seem to take into account the category file (catver.ini) because trying to "Filter select" games using mamewah config under the 'category' field does nothing.  Is it broken?  Or how do i get it to recognize the catver file so that the category field is useful?  I can get some of the lists using the description field but it isnt as good as the category field (which I assume is generated by catver)

Not sure about MAMEWAH Config, but you can easily do it from Games List Options > Generate Filtered List in MAMEWWAH itself - that's how I do it.

Note you need to have your catver.ini location specified in emuname.ini, and have generated the main list in order for the category filters to appear when doing the above.
