Cab color...Black or Natural wood?
« on: August 22, 2005, 04:37:35 pm »
Major construction for my cab is completed.

Now I'm trying to decide on the paint job and artwork.

Can't quite decide if I want stain it or paint it black.

Also, since its my 1st cab, any other suggestion would be helpful.

The link has more pics on the cab.

The black looks better... real wood finishes on cabs always looks wrong.  Maybe a wood laminate, if you have one, at least that is authentic looking enough.

black - it's not even close.  You could try staining it black to preserve some of the wood texture although I'm not sure how that will look...

definately go with black, it will give it more of an authentic look, especially since you are using sideart, I would use a high or semi gloss black paint though, dont go with flat.

does it have to be black or stained wood? Why not go for one of the nintendo colors (orange, blue, red)?

Good idea, I've place a orange version for comparison.

I still say black..I personally think colored cabs are kind of tacky.

The DK Jr Orange with white T-molding ... definitely. Black gets boring in a hurry.

Cheers.

Natural wood will make it look more like a piece of furniture.  I recommend this method if you have other natural wood furniture.  You can get some stain and try and match your furniture so it goes well with your decor.  This might make your wife happy.

Black looks "cool"  your buddies might go "wow, man cool arcade".  Black has been done to death. It is too safe.  NOTE:  I am making a black and blue cab -  even more cliche'

A bright color would have more style and be more fun like a real arcade.  I wish I didn't pick the standard black/blue button combo.  I remember all sorts of arcade games where every button was some different wacky color.  Orange, yellow, blue, green with no coordination at all.  Thats what classic arcades are all about LOUD FLASHY sounds and colors.

bottom line, choose what YOU really want (or what your wife wants) Because we're not going to come over and play your cabinet and I'd bet most of your friends and family don't read these boards.  ;D

I say orange or Yellow with orange T-molding.  I wish I had been that brave

Black is too boring, I would go with the orange, looks very fitting. I also do like the natural style too. I usually dont, but this time I do.

I vote for black.  Go to home depot, buy some laminate and spray adhesive and a router bit, and the wood look is history.

I like the Orange with white T-molding. Black is only a solution for me because I lack artsy skills.

Try black T-molding with the orange, instead of white.  should look good.

I think the orange with the white t-molding looks the dogs.
Black does get old real quick, I'm going for a colour on my next cab.
