Got my Apartment!! (Share your Ramen Recipes)
« on: August 22, 2005, 09:23:49 am »
So I found an apartment a while back and subleased it.  The previous occupants still had all of their belongings in the apartment.  It was planned that they would move out over the weekend and allow me to move in on Sunday morning.

So I round up my posse and we start loading my belongings at 9 am.  I get a call from the occupants saying that they need till around 2pm to get the remainder of their stuff out.

So we make the hour trek up to Bloomington and sit..... until 6pm until they got out finally.  So we move all of my belongings upstairs.  What a hassle.  I look around and see what all I am missing and make a quick trip out to the store.  After spending $250.00 to get towels and bedding and various toiletries I find I have a total of $40.00 to last me till September 1st.  Regardless, I then find a nice little package in my stuff from my loving wife.

Its bills.  Go figure.  $650.00 worth of overdue bills because they are all in my name.  Talk about stress.

Good to hear you got your own place. Sorry the wife turned out to be psychotic. At least you found out before you had a bunch of little demons.

It'll all work out.

make sure to cancel any "utilities" for the place you no longer live.

If she wants to use them let her pay for them.

Or at least cancel any "unnecessary" services like cable, internet and phone service.

Cancel EVERYTHING with your name on it that she still uses.  If you still use it, reopen a new account with only your name.  Don't share anything you can eliminate, it will be important later on.

I have to agree. Sounds like she's decided to be ruthless. There's no reason for you to pull any punches. Turn everything off.

What too many nice people fail to realize is that everything that happens in your relationship, from now until the divorce is final, is just staging for the trial.  You have to set your patterns now, make your actions clear and decisive, so that the opposing attorney can't use your inconsistency as a way to screw you in court.

Subsidizing her lifestyle now leads to alimony later.

She is responsible for 1/2 of the bills. Even if they are in your name. You are also responsible for 1/2 of hers. community property. Look @ the total of both and pick the lesser (cheaper) of two evils. Only tell her if you have too  ;) You may want to check it out in your state.  I have been through that.

This is not true.  If the bills are in his name alone, they are his responsibility alone.  It will destroy his credit way before it gets to court.  What he needs to do is pay them, and keep track of everything, and bring that to court as part of his itemized list of things for which she owes.

So, he should ignore them, and wait 4 years for the divorce settlement?  Creditors don't wait like that.  She won't pay him and if the bills don't get paid, he gets screwed.

That web page is nice but it only talks about the law, not the reality of the situation.

This isn't anywhere near rock bottom.  Rock bottom is for addicts and burnouts.  You're transitioning away from your marriage unexpectedly and doing it pretty well.

Just make sure you do what is in your own best interests at every step and you'll be fine.

Creepy, You know what your right! Thanks for the quick jolts of memories of my ex-wife. Seriously depending on the amount. $650 does not seem that much but with the transformation he may struggle. She may just agree to pay because she may just want to be done with it. (hell it's worth a try) It's just another bullet in the chamber. Or use it for negotiation if he can. He may just be able see his big screen again.

Look at it like this Demon,

$650 would be about 5 weeks of child support.  It would also be maybe a month's worth of Alimony if Indiana were an Alimony state.

If you pay $5000, it would be worth it to be clear.  There are always costly mistakes.  Try not verifying your car insurance check made it.

Friend of mine found out his check was late the day he rolled his NEW suv into another car.

That was a $45K mistake.

It usually takes at least 2-3 months of nonpayment for car insurance to be cancelled.  His mistake was a lot bigger than not verifying that one check made it.

My insurance agent will pay my insurance for me if I'm late getting a check in. Of course they call me and tell me to get my hiney down there and pay them, but they do provide that service.

Well I just called and asked the woman if she would be willing to help cover the cost associated with these bills.  She didnt answer her phone so its just a message.  God pride hurts.

I doubt she will cover any of it, but at least I asked.

You are right Chad, its not rock bottom yet.  The people I am subleasing from are causing me grief too.  Just tried to get power swapped into my name and they wont allow it.  The previous occupants also have left a balance and its due to be shut off for non payment.  Yay!  Go me!

So now I have to get a copy of my lease and my DL to prove that I am not them.

Well keep your chin up. Remember that it could be worse, you do at least have a place to live. If it makes you feel any better, you're probably handling this better than I would in your situation.

...and Ramen can only tide over so much hunger.

Look for "odd food combinations" around here....shmokes has a nice recipe for Ramen I can vouch for.

Indeed, the bills eff up YOUR credit, not hers, since the bills are in YOUR name only.  Trying to rectify the situation after this is all settled if you DON'T pay them will be a nightmare.  Think about it - you'll have to try to get the credit reporting agency to take off a judgement because you were going through a divorce and didn't decide to pay them.  Are they gonna care about your squabbles?  Well, did they send a "how are you and the wife doing" letter, or a bill?  I think the answer is clear :D

Hey, do they have Speedway gas stations by you?  I've got a FISTFUL of points and I could print you out some of the free stuff and mail 'em quick so you can at least grab some hot dogs and a few 2 liters or something (I've got enough for the friggen dinner, don't worry, those few thousand points won't take that big a dent outta my several TENS of thousands of points :)

Totino's pizzas are a buck each. Water from the sink gets tacked onto the water bill. I'd send off my Double Dave's card for a free pizza buffet, but it's not quite full yet. All the coupons I have are 2 for 1. So you still have to buy something.

Oh! I've got free coupons for 2-liter sodas that expire at the end of the month. Want them? (They only apply to diet drinks, but it breaks the monotony of water.)

So....  I started unpacking stuff recently...  Havent even been able to get to my apartment till 9pm any night, too much work.  Now I realize that I am missing certain things that are essential.

I got my Xbox and my PS2 but lacking my PS2 controllers and neither one had power cords or AV Cables.  Talk about a kick to the jimmy.  Then I realize that she also has all of my Optical cables.  Grrrr.  So my entertainment center has lots of items there but nothing is hooked up.

Anyone wanna share some good Ramen recipes?

I lived on Ramen in college.  When I was really going to splurge, I got Spaghettios with meatballs or franks.  If I had a date, I could step it up to cube steak from the toaster oven.

I had a girlfriend who really enjoyed cube steak from the toaster oven because she knew it was what I was able to afford.

Yes, I married her.

MMmMmm... Ramen! Besides the standard egg, which is tasty, these are usually what gets put in my instant noodles or soup at any given time. Ingredient suggestions are courtesy of my Chinese girlfriend and her "I'm too tired from work to cook your sorry ass anything complex" or "Getting rid of leftovers" menu...

+ Chopped green onions (Big help on the flavor, cheap too!)

+ White pepper. (It can be found cheap if you have a local asian store. American stores charge a premium for it... great in soups)

+ Seasoned Seasame Oil

+ Plum sauce (Used in drained noodles only, the spicy/hot version has a real nice flavor)

+ Peas

+ Carrots

+ Chopped broccoli

+ Dried Seaweed (Use in soup noodles only. It adds a lot of flavor and some texture, not for everyone though)

+ Pork (Roast or chops, cut into thin slices or cubed)

+ Canned Tuna (Use in drained noodles only, my version of poor man's casserole!)

I used to put tuna in my ramen.  It wasn't always great tasting but it was as healthy as I could afford.

Then again, if you have any issues with blood pressure, you need to stay away from ramen completely.  It has as much sodium as a salt packet.

I remember adding a slice of processed cheese right after you take it out and stirring it until it all melted, made the ramen taste creamy (I'm not a big fan of procecced cheese slices by themselves, but in ramen is great).

I think the tuna sounds pretty gross for ramen, but I have added it to macaroni and cheese (add a little mayo to it as well) and mix it all up, and it's a good meal (I still make it every once in a while when my wife doesn't feel like cooking).

Olive oil, garlic salt, and a drop or four of A1 (the A1 is dependent on whether or not you like it)

You’re always in control of your behavior. Sometimes you just control yourself
in ways that you later wish you hadn’t

Here is a recipe that I tried when I ran out of food.   For God's sake don't try this, ever.

I thought Raman noodles and Manwich sauce (the only two things I had left in the apartment) would make a kind of faux spaghetti.

Wrong.

Nasty, nasty, nasty stuff.

I lived for too long on Ramen in the college days. I can't even stand to look at the stuff now.
