Windows XP PRo Startup/Shutdown Chimes
« on: August 19, 2005, 07:26:49 am »
Okay, I've disabled startup/shudown screens and shelled MameWah, all works well.  I don't know if I missed something but I still hear the Startup and Shutdown chimes from XP.  How do  I disable, remove these audio chimes confirming windows is starting, shutting down?

Any suggestions re: registry editing?

Thanks

Kevin

Errmm, can't you go to Start - Control Panel - "Sounds and Mutimedia" (Win2K, might be renamed on XP) and change the "Exit Windows" and "Start Windows" sounds to (None)?  Or am I missing the blindingly obvious again?

Tiger Heli, Thank you so much, why are the easiest of tasks the hardest to complete?  I'm glad you are around.

This quick fix did the trick, now to finish with a tweak UI to hide my mouse cursor.

Thanks again Tiger heli!

There is a better way for doing this.

Simply delete sound files from

C:\Windows\media

 :)

and you can hide your mouse cursor by editing Registery.
Thanks to DaemonsCollector for this help.

To get rid of the starting cursor in windows XP Open Regedit, got the HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\ Create a key called "Cursors" and within this key create new string values as shown in the attached screenshot, but point them to whatever cursor you want.
