Best SNES shooters?
« on: August 18, 2005, 07:04:15 pm »

Anyone have a list of their favorite SNES shooters, either top down or side scrollers?

Here is a partial list of what I've been playing:
Aero Fighters, Sonic Wings, Axelay, Bio Metal, Phalanx, Raiden Trad, Strike Gunner, the R-Type games, Space Megaforce, Super Earth Defense Force, Thunder Spirits, and U.N. Squadron.

I'm sure there are a lot more I may have missed.
Genesis suggestions welcome too!

Thanks for the suggestions! Looks like I found most of the good ones, but there are a few that I missed for SNES.

Looks like I had most of the Genesis ones. I tried running Gaires on my PSP, but it hangs at the starfield right before the title pops on screen. Works with Gens on the PC though, so at least I can play it again.
I'll have to check the TG16 games out.

ive found that auto doesnt always work for the genesis titles. sometimes you have to specify the region to get it to load.
might want to try that

SNES:
Pocky and Rocky I and II.  Two of my favourite shooters.

[edit]  Called "KiKi KaiKai" on the Japanese Super Famicom, and also in arcades (playable in MAME).  [/edit]

starfox was fun, but too easy ,all you had to do was roll the entire way to deflect enemy shots. you could win almost without ever firing a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- (sans bosses)

The TG16/PCE and TGCD have the best shooters of any console, no question.

What other platform has a shooter that takes place in a toilet bowl?
