Neo Geo Config
« on: August 17, 2005, 01:15:18 am »
I'm new to the MAME world and I'm working on getting every thing set up before building my cabinet. I picked up a Slik Stick fighter and everything is working perfect but I am a little confused on what config file I need to make for all neo geo games to use the neo geo config. Do I have to make a ctrlr filer or a config file? Also where do I have to put this fle to make sure all neo geo games work? I tried looking around and I found how to make the config files put can't quite figure out how to get all the games to use the bottom 4 button setup. This is so addiciting!

Welcome to the forum  :)

If you are trying to make a specific Joystick configuration for all the neogeo games then go to the Ctrlr folder and place a Neogeo.ini file there. If you are using a joystick hack then make sure to change in Mame.ini

### Input device options ###

joystick                0 to 1

Sorry, but ignore Ahmer.

The slikstik uses an ipac and isn't a joystick.  This should all be in the documentation and is on the slikstik website.  Although a quick look at it it's a little confusing and I think slikstik changed the ctrlr files for the worst.

The MAME ctrlr files have changed since version .83.  They are no longer ini files they are xml and have the extension cfg.

Read here:

If after that you've got some questions, ask away.

I picked up the conroller used and unfortunately it did not come with any of the documentation. I've been able to figure out most of it just by browsing the SlikStik site.

Let me know if I have this right. I can create a neogeo.cfg and put that in the ctrlr folder and this load for all neo geo games? I already created a cfg file in game by changing the inputs, can't wait to get home and give it a try.  Thanks for the help. This is a great forum and I am sure I will be on here a lot!

That's one way to do it, but you can't use the cfg file created in game.  The files in the cfg directory are different then those in the ctrlr directory.

You could also create one ctrlr cfg file and have a section just for neo geo games.  Start with the slikstik cfg from mame and the slikstik cfg from the slikstik website as a guide.

To use that file, you have to add this in your mame ini file.

ctrlr      slikstik

assuming that the file is called slikstik.cfg
