Original Pac-Man removed???

Has the original Pac-Man rom been removed from MAME??, as all i can find is Pac-Man Plus??

The origional Pacman is pacman.zip, and is labled "Pacman (Midway)".

Are you sure you're not only viewing masters parent roms?

If you are only viewing parent roms, then the original pacman will be listed as PuckMan.

Puckman is the japanese title, pacman is the american title.  The only difference between them is language I believe.

For info, if you don't know already that.

The original name of Pacman is PUCKMAN   , few cab have been imported under this name in the U.S.

But they realised quickly that you could easly transform the "P" of PUCKMAN to a "F" by removing just a little bit of paint.

So , they decided to change the name.

Pacman Plus' maze is green, different "fruit" i.e. Coke cans and other things, maze disappears sometimes after eating certain objects, ghosts disappear after eating the "fruit" and you get twice the amount of points for eating an invisible ghost.  Sometimes one of the ghosts does not turn.  So it's harder than the original.

The pacman series is the first series in the now common tradition of not numbering sequels to the original, thus confusign the heck out of everyone.

Ms.  Pacman (Pacman2)

Pacman Plus (Pacman3)

Baby Pacman (Pacman4  but it can be argued that since it's half pinball, it shouldn't be included)

Pacman Jr. (Pacman5)

Super Pacman (Pacman6)

ect.....


btw those may not be right, I just wanted you to understand that pacman plus isn't just a variant of pacman.... technically it's a sequel.

You have to have both pacman.zip and puckman.zip.

puckman.zip is the parent rom... pacman.zip will NOT work without puckman.zip

Puckman is the Japanese version, PacMan is the US

Are you sure that it works with the newest version of mame?, as ive just placed it in my rom folder, refreshed the rom list and it doesnt show up. Ive even tried putting it in a folder all on its own and pointed mame to that rom folder and it still doesnt show up??

yes it works.  You either have a bad rom or are doing something incorrectly.  PacMan has worked since the very first version of MAME I believe.... you shouldn't be having trouble withit.
