'OK' Screens - yes, i searched!
« on: August 13, 2005, 02:10:25 am »
Hey all,

I am having a problem getting past the MAME 'OK' screens without using a keyboard. I have already disabled most of them, but still can't get past the few that do show up without scrambling for my keybord. I  use a keyboard hack and have P1 Joystick Left set to F7, and P1 Joystick Right set to 'O.' UI_LEFT and UI_RIGHT are configured the same (F7, O).

But the joystick wiggle doesn't work.

Maybe F7 is a special button that shouldn't have been programmed to the P1 joystick. But I went through the mame.ini and remapped all keys that use F7, so there shouldn't be any intereference.

Any ideas?

newest mame32 lets you wiggle your joystick from left to right to do ok you might try remapping and doing this,or do what I do use a wirless keyboard and mouse.works great and no fuss.

It is the most common question that new mame users often ask. :)

I don't know which version of mame/mame32 you are using, but
check your emulator specific INI file such as mame.ini

set.

Your keyboard hack for player1 joystick should be work with F7.
I suggest to to avoid those functional Keys like F7 and Ctrl,Alt,Shift.

Can you play the game with your keyboard, not hte hack, with those settings?

F7 is save state by default in mame.

I did this, but the OK screen still shows up in 'broken' games.

Yes, I can play. Any feature that requires F7 has been mapped to something else.

Thanks Tiger-heli for the link. Recompiling mame seems to be the best solution for me.
And thanks for the KB hack guide too.
