I probably already know the answer but,  are they in the same territory as mame ROMS?   Unless you own the board with the ROM they are illegal???

I would guess it's different, but probably still illegal.  A MAME rom is the actual game itself, but a PinMAME image is really a simulation of a bunch of physical components...

Actually, someone correct me if I'm wrong, PinMAME uses the actual pinball ROMs.  Visual Pinball simulates the physical stuff.  PinMAME may too, but I know they use the actual pinball ROMs for some things.
