WESTERN UNION BLOWS BIG, STINKY CHUNKS!

more ebay blues. i made the mistake of bidding on something on ebay in belgium. i hadnt noticed that the guy doesnt use paypal so ive had to send him a western union postal order. when the guy gets it he says he cant cash it anywhere and is unhappy with the events. today i thought id kill two birds with one stone and go and cancel the cheque. unfortunately i had just told the lady at the counter that it was unused. then she told me that unless its lost or stolen id have to bring it in. then i told her that ill say its stolen. she said 'but you just said it was unused'. then i replied thats ok, ill go to another post office and say its stolen. outside i look at my receipt again and notice it says you have to bring it to the place of pusrchase! doh! and then i remembered the other bird i was killing with that stone. i had just given the lady a job application as well! doh! doh! doh!
naturally all this is western unions fault and not mine at all  so now ive had to really juggle things. ive just emailed the guy to say ive reported it stolen so dont try and cash it. now i have to send cash via registered mail. and then next week sometime ill go back to the po (its a GPO so lots of employees) and make sure i get a different person at the counter so i can say its stolen!

That's funny man, not the EBay fiasco but telling the cashier to her face you would go elsewhere and make a false report after applying for a position there.... Yeah, you will get that job for sure. 

I can't do it man. I can't EBay. I never have, I won't. I don't trust the system and don't need the headaches. You have just convinced me to stick to my guns.

I agree about ebay, i will only buy items that don't cost much in the hope that if i do get screwed i'm not out much, still not the best idea.

Just a thought, but you should've gotten the guy to send the money order back if it was causing him such a problem.


I've never had any real problems with stuff I've bought off of eBay. But then I don't do Paypal, I stick with postal money orders. This helps two fold. One, if someone cashes a postal money order and doesn't send the stuff, they've commited mail fraud. Second, they've given me an address to start looking from so I can hunt them down and kill them.

Ebay has become something of a bloated mess over the last few years, but it's still the easiest way I know to find obscure bits & bobs.

you all have points. i dont tend to buy expensive stuff- just in case. a problem with ebay i think is that if you have a fairly low feedback score (im at 22) then you have to be unusually diplomatic to people who have a much higher score because you dont want to risk a bad feedback.
i would have got him to send it back but he was already getting edgy as it took a while to get the ball rolling in the first place.
and yes, as some of you here will all too willingly remind me, i tend to shoot off at the mouth before thinking it through! i might slip another application form in a week or two as i bet the first one is now landfill!

most sellers I've encountered at ebay have no sense on how they should run their ebay business they feel the buyer should be the first to leave feedback and that they don't need to contact you at anytime throughout the transaction (after they send you the bill) to let you know that the item has shipped payment has been received or anything.

plus you can now very rarely find a good deal on ebay and if you think you have then once you read further and see their over exaggerated shipping and handling fees you then realize that it's not a bargin after all.
