Doom has a thin plot by game standards. Should be fun (or not) to see how they stretch that out for 90 minutes.

Would have been funny if the star of the movie was a chaingun.  ;D

The movie sucked big time, but House of the Dead had some pretty hot chicks especially the asian chick and the red head running arround in the bustier with the bouncing BOOBs.

Resident Evil sucked.  So did Tomb Raider.  So did Mortal Kombat.  So did Street Fighter.

Now Tron, on the other hand...  :)

Given the concept they were starting with, I didn't think the first Mortal Kombat was all that bad. Good soundtrack, at the time too.

Anyhow, as DOOM3 on the PC pretty much *looks* like a movie already...there's really no point in actually making a movie. I mean they could have taken the opportunity to add to the Doom mythos, maybe expand the storyline, but it looks like they're just going to put the game on the screen.

Hollywood has truly run out of ideas.

Does Tron really count? Didn't the movie & the game come out at the same time? I always considered Tron to be a game based on a movie that was based on video games.

PLEASE DON'T POST A PIC OF THE TRON GUY!

That list has a bunch of stuff that started out as not a video game, like all the pokemon.  Tron started out as a movie, games were made from it.

But out of the ones that were video games first, they all suck.  Yeah, there's classics  like Street fighter, mortal Kombat, and Super Mario Bros.  They are good for a cheap laugh, but all in all they suck.

Check this guy out

He's like the goto guy for directing movies based on videogames now.  Don't know how he managed that, considering his current videogame-to-film resume only includes Alone in the Dark and House of the Dead.

Good cast for Bloodrayne, though.  Who knows?  Just kidding, it will suck.

edit:  I guess it helps that he's producing the films too.

Tomb Raider is the best one so far and it was terrible.  If any of those movies stood alone, as in the movie was exactly the same, same script same actors, etc., but there was no videogame it was based on you wouldn't be defending them.  You like them because you want to like them because they are based on videogames and you're all hardcore or some junk.

Those movies all suck.  They're terrible.

I heard on the entertainment news last night they were negotiating for a "Halo" movie to come out in 2007 also.

I liked Tomb Raider.  (I also liked Van Helsing).  Do slow mo on tomb raider when Laura is running out of the ice cavern.  One of my favorite scenes in all movies.  I also like Tomb Raider 2.

Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 were cool.  I still watch them from time to time.

House of the dead was interesting.  Not real good, but I like zombie movies.  I didn't watch mario brothers or street fighter.

I liked House of the Dead.  It had a better premise than most game based movies.  They tried to be too Blair Witch about it, though.

I probably did enjoy parts of all of them.  An enjoyable part doesn't make an enjoyable film and I don't enjoy sitting through 20 minutes of crap for every 30 seconds of entertainment.

To be fair, I haven't actually seen House of the Dead, but I notice that it got a 6% rating on Rottentomatoes, so I really don't have a whole lot of hope that it's set to buck the trend.

Great flick too

it's actually shaUn of the dead ;)

And yes... very funny.

Previewed DOOM last night for cable TV.

THIS MOVIE REALLY SUCKS.

I love THE ROCK and I like DOOM games, but man-o-man did this movie blow.

Unfortunately I think DOOM the movie, will suck.  THE ROCK was on the Daily Show tonight (recent rerun I think). He brought a movie prop gun, the BFG. John Stewart made a funny at how heavy it was.  John and The Rock aka Duane, both commented on how much they love DOOM and played the original. The segment did not flow too well and it was clear that much of the audience did not know what DOOM - the pc game -  was.   Its gonna be on my netflix list. I'll see it in, 6 months or so.

Too bad that the word on doom is bad.  Was lookin foward to it, trailers looked good, but after further review, I'll put it on my blockbuster list too.  BTW, Shaun of the dead is going to be a cult classic.  I watched it 3 times before I sent it back.  Great movie and I suggest you take a look if you haven't seen it yet.

Shaun of the Dead is an aewsome movie.  I've watched it 2wice and will soon again.  Tonight on, duhhh, either AMC or TCM was Steve Martin's DEAD MEN DON"T WEAR PLAID, and following it was Woody Allen's WHAT"S UP TIGER LILLY -- both good ones on a must-see list.

wow!  I saw the movie opening weekend.  I couldn't stand some of the people in it...but they all die anyway.  I thought parts of it were good, but i'm a total dork.  I thought it was cool that the guy who was in charge of the operation, Dr. Carmack was obviously named after John Carmack, the guy who designed the engine.  The main guy in the movie (who wasn't the Rock) was also called John (as in Romero).  So the guy building the engine and running the game was Dr. Carmack and in my opinion the guy playing and living the game was Romero.  just like in real life.

Everything I know about computers I learned because of Doom.  I do computers for a living, so I felt like I had to go see the movie.  I really enjoyed the fight scene that was all shot in FPS but I never played Doom III, so I felt it was missing SOME of the old Doom elements.

I ended up seeing it opening day as well...  Didn't think it was really that bad.  Was it great art, destined to go down in cinematic history?  No...  But it was certainly no worse than a lot of other movies out there, and better than many.

My only real complaint is that it was Doom, but the baddies weren't demons.  I haven't played Doom 3, so I don't know what's going on there, but that just struck me as wrong.
