Hi :) I just wanted some help / tips in regards to creating a Marque & Control Panel. I've kinda created a quick marque below. Hoping to finalise it when I understand a little more from the questions I am hoping you can answer.

I presume vector images are better for artwork. But I have seen (i think) very decent raster images created for things like Marque & CPO. If raster images are acceptable ... What resolution is acceptable 300dpi ? or can you get away with something lower ? The image created below was in 72dpi, but it looks quite good on the monitor. I presume this wont be as good when its printed out ?

The image below was created to the approximate dimensions wanted for the marquee.

If you have any tips / recommendations too that would be much appreciated :)

Thanks

Wow that looks AWSOME!!!!!!!

I made my Marquee in nearly 5400 x 1400 resolution. I was told by a friend who prints posters for a living that the larger the better.

Crimsons,

Mamemarquees recommends using 300 dpi.  You potentially can get away with something smaller but I wouldn't recommend it.

Raster images are fine as long as you don't need to enlarge them beyond the size you find them in.  This can be tough for side art but for marquees and control panels you will probably be alright.  I've found a lot of stuff available in 800x600 or larger.

Few random thoughts:
- I like the color scheme a lot.
- when you mount the marquee you need a good 1/2" or so on the top and bottom if you are using a marquee retainer.  It doesn't look like you have any extra room on the marquee at this point.
- Do you realize that Virtua Tennis is not part of Mame at this point?
- Sorry but I really don't like using Mame as a primary title.  If you really want to have it on there maybe bury it in the background somewhere?
- It looks like the color of her arms, her face and the items above Mame are all the same color.  There is a lot of this particular color so the overall effect is washed out somewhat. Might try changing some of it and using some silver or black in the middle.
- You have some very nice effects going on with this.

Thanks very much :) I will try to re-do the image at 300dpi. I will try to make the changes as suggested namedos - regarding size, colour & Virtua Tennis.

- Mame heading ... Can't really think of a name to be honest :) I don't like Mame either, but I also dont like the all the  _cade names. Maybe will have a bit more of think about this.

I have one more "dumb question" regarding resolution and size. When I create a new image at say 50cm x 19 cm at 72dpi vs 300dpi, the canvas size is MUCH bigger with 300dpi. How can i view the image so it gives me a realistic size of the image being printed ?

Thanks :)

Assuming you are working in Photoshop, you need to input your canvas size and then you need to input your resolution.  Make sure they are not linked together when you make the changes.

As far as the title goes...

something with retro or classic or fun in the title?

Finally got some free time to finish this :). After taking into consideration some of the comments above, I came up with the following 300dpi image.

I completed two Marquees, and now can't decide which one I like better :) Please feel free to comment.

I like the red one better.  I don't know why though - they both look great.
