slikstik Quad Controler Mounting ???
« on: August 05, 2005, 11:30:54 pm »
I recent got my slikstik Quad in the mail YAY
only took a week to get all the way up here which is AWSOME and cheap duty to boot :D

anyway the question I have is how do you attach the Controllers to the CP?

I would prefer not to drill holes to attack them, just not sure if screwing them down will be good enough...

anyone here got one, if so how did you attach them, pics would be kewl too .

Incase anyone was wondering what the Control Pannel looks like goto www.slikstik.com or see the attached image of what mine looks like

Thanks in Advance

not sure how to mount the Happs SUper Joysticks ... not sure if 4 simple screws will be enough to hold it down ... was thinking of screws and maybe some adhesive along the outside of the little black box for the Joystick so it wont interfear with movement of the stick...

with the control pannel I built I bolted the joystick down as seen in the attached picture below... with the slikstik there are no precut bolt holes for the controller for each players ... just a hole for the joy stick

the new slikstik controller only has precut bolt holes for the Trackball mounting plate...

Presume that you're talking about joystick mounting, since everything else on that panel seems to be pre-drilled.

Same way you would attach to a normal wood panel -- I use carriage bolts (which you will to have drill for), but lots of people prefer the clean look of t-nuts (which you will have to drill for) and I have heard of people using wood screws from below (althoug I would not do that).

If you do a search on t-nuts, you'll likely find a thread or two arguing the merits of each technique.

Cheers.

OK yeah, easiest thing is to drill your holes for the joys. It's strange they didn't do it for you, but I guess that leaves people the option of t-nuts instead so no bolt heads are visible. On your panel, if you're concerned about visible chrome bolt heads, then just paint them black (Tremclad semi-gloss or satin-finish anti-rust spray paint).

don't most people put the Tnuts ON TOP of the panel?

You certainly don't want to put Tnuts on a SlikStik panel that is already laminated.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

The point of t-nuts in this situation is so you can mount from below with short bolts, and not have a hole that goes all the way through.

Wouldn't that be the same as just using screws from beneath, but with the added hassle of installing Tnuts?

It was my understanding that Tnuts work best when you are screwing opposite the teeth in the Tnut so that it "pulls" the nut in, securing it more.

If you're going to be securing it from below, you won't have that added strength from the tnut, so why not just screw it in from the bottom and be done with it?

Pointdablame is right.  T-nuts are not what he wants, he wants "threaded inserts". Or you can screw it in or bolt it in.  Screwing it in will work, that's what SlikStik does, but not well enough if you remove the joystick a lot.

Also, now is the time to route anything out below if you are going to.
