Help issues with WG D9200 & ArcadeVGA
« on: August 05, 2005, 08:24:46 pm »
Does the WG D9200 support 240X240? I have a arcadeVGA connected to the monitor and I'm running Mame Resolution tool (by MameWAH) the tool and the card seem to indicate that it supports that resolution, but when I test a game on the resolution it does not work, the screen goes black and I don't hear the monitor switching to the resolution. Does anyone know if this is possible?  haven't been able to find any documentation indicating if the monitor supports this resolution or not!?  >:(
Also I've been running 800X600 resolution for the windows portion, but want to make sure I don't burn the monitor doing it since "800X600" is not "officially" supported by WG. I just recently got flashing lines all across the monitor at this resolution and want to make sure, or find out why. Any Ideas?

Hi all,

I'd be interested to hear feedback on the D9200 and AVGA at 240X240 as well as I've experienced the same issue as mrracer. The Ultimarc site does list 240X240 as a supported resolution for the AVGA, but practical tests with the D9200 don't seem to back this up. It's not the end ofthe world as most 240X240 games run (and look) fine at a slight different resolutions but I'm also wondering if a) I'm doing something wrong OR b) the AVGA doesn't support this resolution.

If Andy sees this perhaps he can clear thing up really quick :)

Cheers,
Breaker.

It must be an arcadevga issue, because 240x240x60.00 @ 15.75kHz works just fine on my D9200.  I wonder if the card is having an issue with such a low pclock.

As far as 800x600 goes, you're probably destroying the monitor.

I called WG on my 9200 when I got it and they said (The techs), that if your monitor reports 800x600 as a support resolution, (I.E. no 56hz here), then it's supported by your revision.

Mine reports 37.5 60hz at 800x600

Still to make yourself feel safer, mount a couple of pc fans blowing across the neckboard, this seems to help prolong the life of 9200s that ops are running.

(I gleamed this hint over at the startech forums)

Later,
dabone

How do you find out the "report" i.e. hz?

Does this still happen if you use the taskbar Galaga icon to change the desktop resolution to 240 X 240?

Hi Andy,

I haven't tried using the taskbar galaga icon to change the resolution but I have hard-coded the 240 X 240 resolution into game-specific 'ini' files in MAMEWAH and received a blank screen. Is there another test we could run?

Thanks,
Breaker.

I've tried the galaga icon before and changed the resolution to 240X240 I ended up with a black screen and had to start the OS in safe mode to change the resolution back so I can see the screen again. I also encoded it to a game specific INI file and got the same result...

Hi mrracer,

Did you try the latest drivers from Ultimarc:
