Problems with classic games in the latest release of Mame??
« on: August 04, 2005, 02:56:06 pm »
Hey guys,

I've been having issues playing the following games on my cab.

Joust
Frogger
Defender
Crazy Kong
Donkey Kong

They all perform as if the monitor is out of synch, both h and v. I dont know whats going on with just these games, since all 5,011 of the other ones run fine. My monitor is a 25" Hantarex Polo with an 8liners chassis. I figured since every other game in MAME runs, it must be a software issue or something.

Anyone else have problems running ONLY these games or know of a solution??

-Nick

What resolution are you running them at?  Maybe try a different one?

I'm running all MAME titles in Mamewah at 640x480 via AVGA. I dont really know how to run individual games in differnet resolutions, or how a handful of games would act this way.

Are you sure you're not using MAME's 'resolution auto' setting (check your \mame\mame.ini)?.  I think what's happening is MAME is picking a mode that hasn't been setup on your screen...you need to very carefully adjust the v-hold.

Have a look on my downloads page for 'MAME Resolution Tool' - this will enable you to setup the best mode for every game, with relative ease.  This or another app to do this is essential IMHO, 'resolution auto' just doesn't work well enough to get the best from your AVGA.

The MAME res. tool I was using wasnt saving the config files for som reason, even after I clicked "Generate inis". I dont know what happened, but I ran it again and it saved the ini's fine.

Thanks again Min.
