Happ Controls - 27" Vision Pro SVGA monitor

So I'm thinking of buying this monitor for my cabinet: http://www.happcontrols.com/index.html?http://happcontrols.com/monitors/49615700.htm! (copy and paste entire link as the msg board is munching it) -- anyone have any opinions or thoughts?  I like that it goes to 800 x 600 vs the 640 x 480 max of the Wells Garner one.  I have 25" left to right in my cabinet and as I read the mounting info on the monitor it should juist fit.  Opinions?

its actually better to your eyes and doesnt wrack anything.
I would def give the happs a try for the money(cheapest one).

but wells gardner 9200 has the advantage of goin down to 15 khz(play jamma PCBs anyone?).i would still buy happs(personally) but my cab only holds a 25" so i had to go with 15 khz monitor.

also,i hear "Tazman" was gonna get one of these happs monitor.So pm to guy to see if he got the monitor yet and how it looks.

The specs scream "yeah baby, yeah!!" but the price says "OUCHIES".  $424.75, well actually $416.26 after 2% discount!  Plus whatever they charge for shipping and handling (lol-handling!)  I like the fact that it's plug and play, and a mean 27" diagonal (that's the measurment of my TV!).  If you have the dough, go for it Saint!

I talked with a technician from WG, (chuck) and he said the 9200 would do 800x600.  It does not list that on the spec sheet.. but then again maybe it only lists common arcade resolutions??  I am trying to see if I can get some confirmation on this..

If so and it does svga as well why not go with the 9200 hundred instead snaake?

9200 cost more thats all..compared to happs.
However american gaming sells it cheaper then wells price tag of $515.00.
I also hear d9200 CAN do svga(800x600) so if i were to get any monitor..i would go straight for the d9200(goes down to 15khz and you never know when you might wanna play some jamma PCB)
besides american gaming sells it for $450 and you 3% discount.

i never seen the happ monitor but i have seen d9200 and its nothing like lot of people thinks.ITS NOT PC MONITOR...it has the fuzzy arcade looks and very friendly to your eyes.
thats my $0.20 right there.

Maybe I'll go with the happ monitor because it does list SVGA as a official spec.

I am just concerned about the res thats all.
If at 30K it really screws up the arcade experience then I'll go with the 9200.

I guess I'll do a bit more research While I am finishing my control panel.

Btw If anyone is building the Ultimate arcade II from plans and wants a few tips or has questions let me know. The plans the site gives are a pain and I have found LOTS of ways to save time and trouble when using these plans!
I also have lots of great tips! and can post a few pics along the way if anyone wants them.

Ok, I'm not Saint; but, I can tell you they charged me $76.97 from Illinois to Ohio for the monitor and the matching bezel.  It has to go by truck on a pallet (UPS won't deliver due to weight and value)

Damn.  American Gaming only charged me $30 for shipping when I bought by Wells Gardner D9200.  They wanted $51 for two-day shipping, and $50 for next day shipping!  It only took them about a week to deliver it.  Not bad at all.

I have a WG9200 and it does NOT do 800x600.  I have heard this from many people, but it will only go to 640x480.

Regarding 15khz, it DOES make a difference not only for Jamma but for regular Mame.  15khz with the appropriate resolution will allow you to PERFECTLY match the original arcade look.  31.5khz is great for higher res (640x480, etc.) games like Metal Slug etc.  

If you want a flat screen large screen monitor and don't need the old fashioned arcade look, check out the Neotec 27" flat screen monitors.  They are fantasic looking and they do 800x600 and some models even do 1024x768.

To answer in a word:  Yes  

It does come all wired and ready to go.  Just plug in the power cord to receptacle and the 15 pin to your PC video card.  As long as the video card you're using supports the right refresh rate, etc.  You should be good to go.  As far as the isolation transformer.... I am not sure.  I know Happ's site says not needed; but, I am not an electrical engineer....hmmmmm, but my Dad is - I'll try and ask him.

All of the newer monitors do not require an ISO.  We started carrying the ISO-free monitors in 1998, if I remember correctly.  This would be one that is ISO-free.  He can ask a tech at this e-mail address.

yes..normally(i have seen couple of these different onces) its all wired up and you get a nice AC cord and a 15pin vga connection.it supports 60hz refresh rate which is standard for windows(am i wrong anyone?).and likely any video card that works with a pc monitor should work with these monitors.the isolation transformer is all *built in* just like standard resolution polo and wells garnder monitors(i got 7400 model ).

and yes...american gaming did a great job shiping my monitor(only $31 shiped to NYC from IL for a 25" model)

I have a WG9200 and it does NOT do 800x600.  I have heard this from many people, but it will only go to 640x480.

Hey marco, just found some notes I got from the old board from about 2 years ago to get the d9000 to do 800x600, along with some other words of advice:

You may have problems with some vertical games at first...namely the Midway and Atari releases of Namco (Xevious, for example), Namco (Galaga, Pacman), and Williams (Sinistar) games. Now I am running the official MAME binary (not Advance or VSync) with no problem whatsoever, taking advantage of the full vertical orientation on the D9200. Here's how I set the monitor:
Contrast 140
Brightness 118
H Position 073
Now, when you load up one of those formerly hard-to-display-right games everything should now be OK. Notice when the game loads your H Sync frequency should jump from 31.0 to 34.9 KHz, and it still looks sexy. The spec sheet claims 31.5 KHz as the maz Hfreq...man I love this monitor. Also, I found these display better in non-tweaked mode.

[The d9200]Switches automatically [to 800x600] for me. Keep the refresh rate at 60Hz

Also, somewhere else I read to use the same settings as 640x480 in 800x600 mode. Don't know what that means and I couldn't find the source.

You may want to try the above and see how it works for you. Remember to post your results! (as I am considering it too)

okay lets not confuse ourselves anymore ...this thread is regarding the "happ's vision pro" svga(mean it does 800x600) arcade monitor which both saint and tazman bought.

as for d9200...install your windows xp from the bios screen(you monitor can display) and when you are finished installing xp it will automaticlly be on 800x600 BUT if you go back to 640x480 then somehow you cant come back to 800x600(i am not kidding,this friend of mine owns one and thats how we fixed this).
AGAIN,not smokin crack or other stuff like that..this is how it goes from what *I have seen*.

no idea what happens if you use 98 or me(we never tried).
Also one of wells dude confirmed it does 800x600 so i dont see why marcopolo's 9200 cant do....

Check the display settings for the monitor type.  If Windows thinks the monitor is only capable of 640 x 480, it won't even let you try to go higher.  Don't believe WG has a driver for their monitor, so try the generic SVGA 800 x 600 driver.    Let us know?  I had to do the same for my new monitor....

Also one of wells dude confirmed it does 800x600 so i dont see why marcopolo's 9200 cant do....

I'm very interested in both the Vision Pro and the WG 27" vgas.  What do I have to do to get the extra 3% off from American Gaming?  That WG 27" sounds like the way to go, though the shipping cost for each might be the determining factor for me.

Looks like you just have to order it and they have a special that knocks 3% off the list price.

I need to officially retract my previous post.  The WG D9200 does indeed do 800x600.  I was travelling this week and just got back to the house, went down to the basement and  I moved the slider bar in Video properties to 800x600 and sure enough it does it.  It actually doesn't look too bad.  I also called tech support at WG and asked them if it's hurting the monitor to do 800x600 and they said NO.  In fact, they said the only reason they don't post the max res at 800x600 is because certain video modes are not supported at the max res.  So it looks like the WG D9200 has surprised me again.

I can verify that.. I had windows going at 800x600 on D9200 w/ a G400.

and 640x480 at 16bit colors

I found that I had to do hardware stretching to get games with odd frequenies/resolutions to work.  I decided to give advance mame a shot to try and resolve these issues but I was unable to get it to work properly, so I stuck with hardware stretching.. On most games it looks fine, and since I dont have an arcade monitor to compare to, I'm  happy with it ..

Some games just dont turn out perfect with hardware stretching....  Not perfect, but allright....This is my only complaint,

As for the Wells gardner  I know nothing about them except the can display at lower freq. (15khz)

This has advantages if you want to use them in conjuction with arcadevga or real arcade games...
And others would say authenticity...

I like the monitor -- I'm going to pick up a D9200 to compare one day.  For what it's worth though I believe I have had it running 800 x 600 at  more than 256 colors, though I could be mistaken. I'll plug it in and verify and post later.

Aricade- You got the wrong card if your only pulling 256 colors with that monitor at 800x600 and are getting the "out of frequency range" message.

I use an ATI Radeon 9700 pro and I run it in 16bit color and 800x600 just about all the time. I had out of frequency probs at first as well but I just didn't have my card set right. I did have to go dual display so I could see what I was doing and set it right. I have no probs with stretching size either. Uniform on my end. I'd say maybe tweak sizing options, but it sounds like your running mame on auto res maybe? It'll do that for some games, have it too far left or right, up or down, etc when you have stretch on.

I did have to do a manual degauss as it arrived partially magnetized via the long frieght. But that's not the monitors fault. Damn earth core!

Anyways I've had the monitor for about four months now and it's run solid IMO.

Yeah the frieght company they use on those is pricey for residential deliveries. It's BS, but none of the big 3 carriers will handle a package that size and weight.  I got a ship quote from HAPPs before ordering at $120, then they charged my card $145. Thankfully I had the original quote on email and they credited me back.

$50 to ship a "27 inch monitor. Either you lived in the next town over or they got it back from you on the cost on the monitor. lol!
