Saturn emulation or Virtua Fighter emulations
« on: July 29, 2005, 06:23:18 am »
Basicly I want to put virtua fighter 1 in my cab and the mame version runs hella slow on my athlon 1800. However seeing that I can get zinc to run the likes of dead or alive/rival schools perfecly is there an emulator which runs virtua fighter perfectly? I have looked but found nothing.

Also maybe emulating a saturn might be an option, I own virtua fighter 1 legally on saturn so all i would need is a emu, but which to use? I heard of giri giri etc but no sites specifiy whether this particular game can be emulated at full speed.

I see many front end skins for the saturn platform on the net so some of u guys MUST have a solution

There is a very good Saturn emulator and STV PCB , called Satourne.  It is a French emulator , so almost all website are in French but on the download page of the official web site, i saw you can download international versions.

Just search on google with "satourne"  , you will have lot links.

This emulator use Open GL for 3d . So if you have a correct 3d graphics card  , i think you can play Virtua Fighter very well on your machine.

Another solution could be to use Chankast emulator (dreamcast emulator) and use the Dreamcast version of virtua Fighter. But i think it requires a more powerfull machine.

Another solution would be to put your Saturn or a Dreamcast in your cab!  or find an STV board with the game.

There's also a Sega 32X version of the game.  Obviously not quite as pretty but it would probably run full-speed.

speaking of Virtua Fighter, after seeing a VF original cab for sale locally I tried to play the game in MAME to see if I like it enough to try to buy the original cab... but it wouldn't work. all i was getting was a bunch of "frost" on the screen. I could tell it was trying to work but not there. it's like the video ouput is being messed up. started off black and white, but then when I "put in coins" and hit one player, it changed to color so it's like it's trying to work but the monitor setting are off or something.

I tried a few other games in MAME and most of them were fine but it seemed like the other virtua games i tried all did the same (once I checked to see which ones were supposed to work).

any suggestions? I'm using mame32 if it matters. I tried rebooting, but no joy...

and sorry to threadjack... :)

No thats fine, I honestly do not believe virtua fighter is playable in mame no matter what spec PC you have - hence my asking if there was an emulator like zinc that makes use of the PC graphics card in order to play the game.

But minwah - thanks for jogging my memory about the 32x, i'll try that tonight - only hope it plays the same!

I loaded it up on my laptop and it plays fine though... that's what's throwing me off...

guess I need to double check the processor in my home machine but it's pretty recent and has way more memory and such..

Not sure how far modeler is on emulation, but mame's code comes from guy that made modeler.

If you can possibly find a Diamond Edge 3D card that had the Saturn controller ports on it, you can use it and the software it came bundled with to play your Sega Saturn games on your computer.  Also, if you find "two" let me know :)

Sounds pretty neat...
