Marvel vs. Capcom & Beatmania
« on: July 26, 2005, 09:02:44 pm »
Hey guys how do I go about getting these games emulated?   Im guessing I will use another emulator that is not mame, and another front end?  Or could I use Mamewah with any emulator?  How difficult is it to set up two emulating systems on one pc?

Finally, I am about to purchase a computer... what specs would you guys recommend to play marvel vs. capcom?

I was thinking:
p4 2.4
256 geforce video card
512 ram

thanks for the input.

If this machine is mainly for emulating then I would save some money on the GFX card and get a faster CPU as GFX card wont make much difference at all.

Your computer is more than adequate to run marvel vs capcom smoothly and more than adequate for mame.

I just realized marvel vs. capcom is one thing but I want to use Marvel vs. Capcom 3  ... its the newest of the arcade games and has some real graphics on it.  Can I use mame for this or am I going to have to find another emulator?  What type of PC needs to be used for the high end games ... beatmania, cruisin world ... etc...

thanks.

Or do I have to use something like kawaks?  Or is there nothing that can play that new of a game?

I wasn't aware that there was a Marvel Vs Capcom 3. Marvel vs Capcom 2 (NAOMI Hardware) is a couple of years off from being emulated. However if you really wanted this game in a cab; all consoles from Dreamcast to Xbox have great ports (with the Dreamcast being closes to the original hardware).

Re read the FAQ's and the licensing info for MAME. MAME devs even if they could; they would not emulate a current money maker as it is detrimental to the industry that we all love so much.

Read as much as you can...

Arcade conversions to other platforms are typically referred to as ports or being ported to a system / console. For a Dreamcast you simply need the disk/GDROM hack two control pads and modify a VGA cable and boom you have a Dreamcast in an arcade cabinet.  :o

Is there any EASY way to do this?  Damn I really really really want that game.  I am very disappointed :(  But thanks for the help.

I'm sure you are goofing, but will elaborate.

Sega Dreamcast can be had for $20 from ebgames, gamecrazy, craigslist, eBay,  etc
controllers $5 average price same places listed above.
You can contact Haruman on this forum for pre hacked pads $30 per pair shipped (if memmory serves)
VGA cable $15 eBay possibly other locations as well. snip a wire for output suitable for an arcade monitor.

Search the console section this stuff is there too.

I can snap pics tomorrow after work if you'd like to see pics, but I'm sure there are other examples on this board.

oh yeah Marvel vs Capcom 2 (Dreamcast) = about $10 - $15 and the NAOMI version sells for about $200 - $250 which i'd be willing to sell you.

NAOMI is the real deal.  100% arcade authentic because... thats what they ran in the arcade cabinets.

Yep... everything else is a "port" or a version based off of the Acade version. Think of the NAOMI as the Dreamcasts take no crap big brother with faster CPU and tons more memmory. In the end though MvsC2 is just as good on the DC as it is on the NAOMI with no noticeable deficiencies.

You'll find info about doing stuff like this in the Consoles forum.

So naomi games will be available on mame in the future even if it may be a few years this is still possible?

Yes, but doubt there will be any real effort to emulate it until the games are not revenue generating.

Here's the problem. The NAOMI hardware albeit somewhat old is still running some of the most quarter munching games found today. Here's what it looks like where I live:

At my local Dave and Busters they have 16 cabinets that run NAOMI hardware. Local Golfland Arcade has 12. Chuck e Chees has 8, etc... Its still a very popular platform.

These are homebrew hacks.  Go the the website in my sig, under hardware support in the forums, and look around.  there is a toutorial on how to do this, and a list of resources.  Dosen't look too hard, although ill need to try it. *adds to to-do list*
