My First Controller
« on: July 23, 2005, 12:01:58 pm »
Been meaning to post this for a while and finally got around to it now I have a new camera phone...

An arcade controller made from a CD/DVD case (meant to hold 150 CD's) using Ultimarc parts:

And here's a couple of views of the innards... the iPac controller is attached to the bottom of the case with the cable plugged into the back:

And here's a view from the back. I didn't need to use the pass through port which meant I only had one hole to line up/drill for the PS2 cable... got a nice tight fit on it too so it doesn't fall out either.

Looks really good for a first controller.  Good job.

Thanks for the pictures!  I hacked one of those hand held Jakk's games, but couldn't find a project box I liked.  Your solution is perfect, and looks great!

OK, a quck google shows tons of cases, but not one that looks quite like that.  Would you mind posting who makes it and where you got it?

I think I'll hit a couple stores later and see what they have.

I bought it from Bowlers, a local computer fair held in Manchester (UK) every saturday. I'm sure if you look around a little you'll find something similar without too much trouble.

Looks like I may have found it, or one darn close.  Now I'll just have to see if I can find it locally:

Yea, I saw that but it's an "internet only item" and I don't like the idea of spending $11.52 for shipping on a $19.99 item.  I'd rather spend $5 in gas and buy it from a local store.

I'll just hit the phone book, or check around when I go to a store for something else.

Looks good but it seems to me the whole box would move and not be heavy enough to stay put during game play.

Very nice.  Clean, uncomplicated.  Whatever works for you!  And very portable too.

Looks great.  Also, you could make a protective cover for the IPAC and store some USB gamepads, PartyPack CD's, Mini-ITX or whatever. :)

Cheers,
