Finding 25" S-Video TV.
« on: April 30, 2002, 09:54:42 pm »
Well, after lurking, I've decided that my decision to give up on getting a S-Video TV for a composite is a bad idea.  I'm backed into a corner tho. I have already built my cabinet shell, and It's 25" big.  I've looked and looked for 25" s-video tv's, and am having no luck at all.  I was hoping that some of ya'll would have some experience that you could gift me with so that I can move forward with my cabinet!

Ya'll Rock.  I'm stoked to get this cabinet built!

I went with a Toshiba Model 27A41 which is a 27 inch screen with a total width that is just a little wider than 25 inches.

If you have a 1/4 inch to spare within your 25 inch dimensions, i would recommend this set for s-video out setup for MAME cab.

I am on the finishing stages of my cab (marquee and front glass) and this system is up and running flawlessly within a cab of width dimension of 26 inches.

Steve,

Where did you pick up the Toshiba?  I'll need to get a measuring tape to the tv, but it could do! Thanks ;)

I also went with this TV.  Picture looks good and I found an open box deal at Best Buy that saved me $40!  Another nice feature is that it "remembers" the S-Vid setting on power-up.

Almost done:

Nice shot, Chad.

Looks *alot* like my "almost done".

I see we both appear to have followed Lusid's basic plan. Kudos to that man for making his design available.

hehe... mine has that 'almost done' look for about a year!  Still need to take it all apart and repaint/move CRT back/Get Bezel/create more CP's/Install Side Art/

Its a dream to make it look 'new'

As for the real question

I've heard from many people that some places have the 25" SVid's in the back because they don't sell as well.  But you might find some back there.  Also, you might want to just order one.

Yeah, Lusid's design is simple to follow and comes out looking quite realistic.  My deviations from his plans: I laminated all but the back surfaces, which I painted.  I also made the box under the control panel larger to give more room between the trackball and spinner.  Kudos to Lusid!

Star Wars and Tempest look great.   Not a lot of red to bleed.  Games like centipede are what look a little off, compared to a monitor.  They still look fine and are very playable.

Guys, I'm also currently loking for a 25" with S-Video.   I have only found one:

25" TV

has anybody found any quality brand 25" with S-Video?  I'm convinced they just don't make these anymore.  :(

Also, let me say that I was first looking at 27", but frankly, ain't this overkill?!  Even 25" looks pretty darn big... what is the typical size on a real arcade cab?

I used a reconditioned Panasonic model.  Tube is 25" and was the only type in the store with an S-Video input - but they had truck loads of these things and are selling them for

MadDucks: on the off-topic question, there is a lot you could put in a game room.. pool table.. air hockey/table soccer/ping pong.. gambling/trivia machine (I want a pachinko machine for mine 8)).. pinball machine.. a TV mounted to an arm (like a TV in a bar).. mini-bar (doesn't match my tastes, but..).. jukebox.. and don't forget to decorate/furnish appropriately (beanbag chairs, barstools, posters, lighting, etc.)!

PS, don't shoot me for replying off topic.. it's still part of an on topic thread ;)

hmmm, reviving an old post here, but just wanted to report on the TV I just picked up...

It's a 25" JVC AV-25 F1EK, has 2 SCART and 2 s-video inputs...picture quality is superb...

got it for
When the Germans bombed the British, the British ducked.
When the British bombed the Germans, the Germans ducked.
When the Americans started bombing, everyone ducked!
