What's your word-of-the-day today?
« on: July 19, 2005, 10:13:29 pm »
Growing up, if I didn't know what a word meant, my parents would NEVER tell me what it meant, even if they knew it.  I had to drag out the old 5-inch-thick dictionary and look it up...hopefully it was in there, as our dictionary was old, and not the most up-to-date thing around.  It's a habit I still have, and thanks to the wonder of this here "intra-net" thingy, it's easier than ever to find out the meaning of words.  Here's something I came across today - what have you come across today to share with us?

in ways that you later wish you hadn’t

Keck

\Keck\, v. i. [imp. & p. p. {Kecked}; p. pr. & vb. n.
{Kecking}.]To heave or to retch, as in an effort to vomit.

By the way, you should really check out www.hyperdictionary.com.  Look up a word and every word in the definition is a link to the definition of that word.  So if you look up keck, but don't know what retch means, no problem....just click it.  Great time waster.

Also, you should set up a personalized google page at http://www.google.com/ig
It makes a great homepage for a variety of reasons, one of which being the word of the day.

Of all the people that this could help, you two are tops on the list.

I've never seen such a quick and fitting demonstration of a real-life version of Beavis & Butthead.  Now it's time to figure out which one of you is who ;D

And stop with the "weiner" jokes.  We're adults, you "morans"!

Sorry to any of you out there, but I thought this was funny as all get out and simply icing on the cake:

Etymology: Greek

Dave, you almost never fail to impress!  I have a feeling there's now a battle on to find something to top this.   :D
