Mamewah Layouts
« on: July 19, 2005, 07:44:50 am »
hi,

i have been working hard to setup the PC ready for a cab i plan to build, but in my way of round about ways to do things, i have decided to sort out the software /frontends and emulators first.

i am using mamewar 1.61 and am trying to set up custom layouts for each emulator on the system (13 in total) i can use the layout editor ok, but for some reason i cannot see the background image.  (it's just kind of greyish)

also i cannot figure out how to set up an individual layout file for each emulator.

any help would be great

This should help:

http://mamewah.mameworld.net/docs/layouts.txt

If you can't see the background image, make sure the object backgrounds are set to transparent (use the layout designer) so you can see the background behind them.

ok by reading that, i assume...

i have an atari2600.ini so i shold therefore have an atari2600.lay

this will basically make the layout for the atari2600 only refer to the lay file??

is that right?

sorry cannot check, my computer is offline for a couple of days

Exactly.  Just by that correctly named .lay file being there Mamewah will know to use it (assuming you have the layout name set appropriately).

That's correct. And your files should be, atari2600-main.jpg, atari2600-message.jpg, atari2600-options and so forth. Also, if you want to order the layouts other that alphabetical most of us put a numeric prefix on the fromt like 000_atari2600-main, 010_atari5200-main.jpg and so forth.

ok, here is the progress

i have been able to set up a layout.lay (no background) and an atari2600.lay as i have an atari2600.ini

the layout is fine, so i know they are now switching, however the background for the 2600 (atari2600.jpg) is not showing up in mamewah, it is however showing up in the layout designer.

in mamewah i have just got a grey screen background when i change to the 2600.

progress is being made, but still need some extra help ;D

thanks for the assistance so far guys

As I think jcrouse pointed out, check the filename for that background file. It should be named 'atari2600-main' not 'atari2600.jpg'.

All files should sit in the same layout folder so in the layout folder you are using you should have the files atari2600.lay and atari2600-main.

Put all your other custom layouts and their respective backgrounds into the same folder.
