I finished it this morning and I feel like I've been kicked in the stomach.

Yep, finished it.

The end didn't bother me as I still feel that Snape is still a good guy and was faithful to D.  My reasons?  D. trusts him.  D and Snape had a large argument overheard by Hagrid.  I (personally) think this was D telling Snape what he must do.  D is very pushy to Harry to make sure Snape was up on the tower at the end.  D stunned Harry (no way is that an accident).  D allowed Draco to disarm him.  Even Harry can Accio his own wand back to his hand, D could have at any time.  When Snape arrived to the tower and D said Please, he was saying please do as they agreed.  The anger on his face was that he had to fulfill his promise, not hatred for D.  And D was inchng along the top of the tower (I'm sure we'll find this was for a reason later).  And sense when does D beg pity from anyone?  He has always been the first to say that death means nothing.  It is completely out of character for him to do so unless it was set up.

Now, is Dumbledore actually dead?  Hmmm, I don't know.  I can't buy into that yet.  But if he is it doesn't really bother me as it would have been his choice to go for the cause (again I'm sure this will be explained if so) not because he was beaten.  Having D actually beaten by anyone would have just been retarded and pissed me off.

Oh oh, and I think Snape will end up dying saving Harry in the end.  Just my opinion of course but that's what I think.

The locket I believe was taken by Regulus Black (RAB?).  Not sure if he is dead yet (though supposedly) but if you remember this little bit from Book 5 while they cleaned the Black house:

   "There was a musical box that emitted a faintly sinister, tinkling tune when wound, and they all found themselves becoming curiously weak and sleepy, until Ginny had the sense to slam the lid shut; a heavy locket that none of them could open; a number of ancient seals; and, in a dusty box, an Order of Merlin, First Class, that had been awarded to Sirius's grandfather for 'services to the Ministry'...."

I think that the locket is still in the Black house but unnoticed by anyone at the time.  Unless Mundungous stole it later.  JKR is always good about hiding significant finds early.

I'm listening to the HBP again right now.  I have the audo books for work.  Makes the time go faster.  Anyway, maybe my opinions will change after a few more readings of the book.

I find it hard to belive that D is dead, but I also don't like the alternatives (he'll be back to save the day just in time).

Not sure about Snape, Never really belived he was good, while he did save malfoy from doing the task (he has done what he came here to do, not sure he will take the credit for it) which I guess could be construed as being good act. He was pretty harsh with Potter but I guess he could have had him then if he wanted to.

I hope RAB is not Regulus, I would guess if this was the case then D would have known that it was a fake.

I thought ACCIO only worked with wand in hand on other objects??  I agree with Snape and D's argument being about Snape zapping D.  The problem is (much like Sirius faced) nobody else knows about the agreement, so Snape would have a hard time getting back into the open Wizarding community.

I think D is dead, but will pull an Obi Wan Kenobi and come back "stronger than you can imagine" as Harry's advisor.

But WTF, the entire staff at Hogwarts, with Bill & Tonks, Ron, Hermoine, Ginny & Neville couldn't defeat 4 half-ass Death Eaters & Malfoy?  Why doesn't the Ministry have a 24 hour watch on the Dark Arts store where the Death Eaters teleported from?  Wizards seem to lack the basic surveilance logic of mere mortals.

Doh, I stand corrected.  Harry used Lumos at the beginning of TOOTP without holding his wand when fighting the dementors.

Yeah, the "stronger than you can imagine" is about what I'm thinking of or something similar.  Completely gone doesn't seem right.  I also wasn't happy that Harry didn't even try to talk to the Dumbledore painting in the headmaster office while he had the chance.  How witty is the painting version of him?

Uh, maybe there were more deatheaters that weren't mentioned?  I don't know.  I've always thought parts of the books were a bit weak on the magic fighting parts.

I also think that Harry is generally a bad hero as he doesn't take the study of magic seriously.  Hermione has to explain everything to him most of the time because he's too lazy to study himself.  He knows (or thinks) he will be the one to kill Voldemort but puts little to no effort into learning better spells to help himself.  That is my main gripe of all the books so far.

There is also a lot of talk in this book about spells without verbal incantations.  And the fact that supposedly you can't cast an unforgivable without meaning it.  Maybe Snape cast a different spell while he was faking Avada Kedavra?  A sleeping spell?  And Dumbledore had inched his way over to a position that he could fall unharmed?

I don't know, just pulling stuff out of my @zz here.

Most of the Potter forums agree with you that R.A.B. is Regulus Black.

The more I think about Harry, the more I realize he is a poor wizard.  Hermoine, Fred & George are all better wizards than he is and they all are constantly working on new magic.  Harry is LAZY!!!  Now I hope Voldemort does kill him just to prove a point.

Funny, I hopped on the HP forum last night to see what it was like.  Whoa, not like this one.  They were on page 66 talking about Regulus.  Heck I thought a 12 page thread was huge.  Too many people on there to call it a real discussion.  I did read some other good stuff that I hadn't yet realized though.

If I wrote the books, Harry would be the toughest but still be a normal nice guy.  But alas, I don't.  One other thing that I didn't care for was that Hermione only got a EE on her DADA exam.  I suppose JKR is trying to make the point that Harry can beat her at a subject.  BUT, there have been loads of other people get O on their DADA exam so doing this really just makes Herm not as smart which is dissapointing.  I thought that was a bad choice.
