hey everyone,

is there actually a performance difference b/t the 2 os'es? i've read the real only difference is added driver support for se. can someone confirm or deny? thanks all.

They are the same speed, se is noticably more stable on most systems because it has an additional 2 years worth of bug fixes included.

What Howard said. It's been a long time ago, pre broadband, but I believe the DUN (dial up networking) was also enhanced and much more stable in SE.

So does plain old 98 and the later versions of 95. I'm surprised Howard didn't take a bite out of you for that.

With W95 and W98 you need to add the support files. With 98 SE it was built into the OS. I'm sure that is what howard was speaking of. Also, if you ever tried it in 95 or 98 it was quite flaky (sp?).

98 + all patches == 98SE

Not something you repurchase your OS for.  But when your buying 98, you might as well get SE.

Exactly.... I didn't kill the original poster because in essence he was right.  Although technically 95 and 98 supported usb, considering it wasn't plug and play and it only worked with half of your devices, they really didn't.
