ArcadeOS and update.bat
« on: December 20, 2002, 07:13:28 am »
How can I manually run update.bat? when i attempt to run it through the arcadeos menus it starts looking for a program on my A: drive. I looked around in arcadeos folders but couldnt find anything called update.bat.

I am assuming you run this to let arcadeos know about any new files/roms you've added?
Thanks
David R

Under arcadeos config you can select the main menu and at the bottom of the selections you can set the drive where the file menu looks for additional files.      Once you set that the file menu will no longer use drive A.

Update.bat can be anything you want to use.  I dont remember seeing it in the arcadeos distribution and I really know of no instance where I have needed it.   New ROMs are checked for each time arcadeos starts up as long as you have not enabled quick start.   Arcadeos automatically regenerates files each time it detects a new version of mame being used so I am not sure where you would need the update.bat.

Ok, i had been under the assumption that you needed to run it to add new roms and such.

One other question: Can MAME see ROMS that are not in the root of the ROM Directory? would it see something in <MAME PATH>/ROMS/NeoGEO for instance?

Multiple rom paths can be used in mame and arcadeos.  However you have to set them and since I don't use them I am not sure of the exact setup.   Take a look at both mame and arcadeos docs for the proper way to do it.  Arcadeos 2.5 will has a bit of new info on setting multiple rom paths when filtering.  I quote it direct from the docs.

__________________________________________

Multiple ROM Folder Filtering:

To use multiple ROM directories with Custom Sets, divide roms into
desired directories. List these directories in rom path line of the mame
config file seperater by semi-colons (;). Within ArcadeOS, set "C.List
is Copy" and "Filters Active" in the ArcadeOS Config:Information menu.
Proceed to the ArcadeOS Config:Filters menu and select the position of
the desired ROM directory from 1 to 10 (0=not filtered). Repeat this
Filter setting from within each Custom Set. All other filter options may
be used with this setting.
