I am actually at a stopping point for now.

I talked to ponyboy about a Happs monitor and am waiting on a ship date.

Bought an old computer from a friend of mine who recently upgraded his.

I tried decasing a 19 inch monitor for use with this but it was too small and didn't fill out the top like it should.

I'll post more info when I have mounted the monitor and fired up my first game.

Thanks!  I have been planning and collecting parts for a while now.  It feels good that things are starting to come together a little.

Nice site Jody, and the cocktail is looking great.
Have you thought of using a 21" PC monitor? I've got one in my cocktail and it looks big in there. Of course the case size might be an issue for you.

Well a 21 inch PC monitor would probably work fine as far as screen size goes, but I dont think it would fit well in the cabinet because of the actual size of the monitor.

When I tried the decased 19 inch monitor I was going to have to remove the coin mechs from my coin door to make it fit.  On top of that, the thing didn't really fit right against the bezel arcade depot sells and was a little small on all sides.

Plus there is the cost factor.  I could probably buy a Happs Vision Pro 19 inch monitor and an arcadevga card for cheaper than a 21 inch refurbished monitor.

Sent you a PM with some monitor info before I saw your response.

Anyway I can tell you that the 19" bezel that came factory with my cocktail fits the 21" PC monitor quite nicely. And I think the short-neck monitor I mentioned on my PM would probably address some of the space issues.

BTW if you're planning on doing things other than playing games on your cocktail you will probably be happier with a PC monitor. I went the arcadeVGA route and found it useless for surfing or running my jukebox program..and vector games looked lousy.

Just sharing my experiences with you, not trying to sway you either way.

Thought I would post a little update.

Today I got the monitor installed, the leg levelers added, the 2 holes drilled for on both sides for both the fans and the speakers, and the grill added over the front of the two holes.

Looks like next weekend I will be installing the computer, speakers, fan, and joysticks and hopefully starting the wiring process.

Any comments?

The OS is Win ME and the shell is replaced with Mamewah so the OS boots right up into Mamewah.

Thanks again for the comments.  I want to put Linux on here (I'm a Gentoo user from way back) but the Win9x/Mamewah combo is working really well for this really old computer.

Boots fast (Win ME) and boots straight to Mamewah with little hint that its really a computer buried inside.

cool man, thanks  . yeah the choice of linux has it's disadvantages, trust me. I spent more hours than my website admits, fiddling with the configuration. The windows version of mame (mame.exe, not to be confused with dmame.exe (dos version)) has several advantages over the linux version, the main one being it supports direct draw which can greatly improve the performance.

Well, the biggest reason for me is that WinME boots so darn fast.

I am literally up and browsing Mamewah before I got halfway through my Gentoo or Ubuntu startup screens.

Your website is great though.  Very meticulous.  That's helpful for people going through the same thing.  I wish I would have documented more.
