av on older tv

ok, i have a vage plan to use an older style tv with a cheap laptop. theres so many terms being bandied about nowadays i have know idea what they are. theres scart, s-video etc. all i know is this tv has the ol yellow and white rca plugs. whats the cheapest way to connect a pc to this kind of tv? ive seen this on ebay:

and it looks to be just the ticket, but this scart thing has me puzzled. thats not on your normal pc, surely?

i should add that i wont necessarily be using a lap top, whatever it takes to use the TV. but that i would like to use DOS also the plugs on the TV i realised are called RCA plugs and i've tested it with my Namco 5 in 1 joystick, which works perfectly on it. so i guess something like this will work?

im guessing it will need software though which might be a problem with DOS? what to do, what to do...

I Used an old ATI 4mb PCI rage 128 card with s-video and RCA out.  I plugged in the s-video cable to the tv and configured ATI's settings to recognize the second display.  Then on the next bootup it automatically looked and found the tv and used it is a display device (from bios all the way to windows)--very very easy!  Between the RCA and S-video, the S-video offered a superior display with better colors and a more solid picture.  Windows and mamewah (my frontend) were run at 640x480 and it looked pretty good (arcade monitor still preferred here though )"


so i think the probs solved for a pc at least. but what about a lap top? this machine is gonna be pretty compact so the lap top would be better...

what you could use as opposed to a laptop in a pc, but not in a case. get a motherboard, CPU, RAM, HDD, video card, and power supply. build them into whatever you plan on building the monitor around.

yeah, thats what i did for my first cab, but this one might be a bit squeazy for a full sized mobo. but i think im getting closer to figuring out what to do

See if you can find a microATX mobo that has a built in TV-out. They are hard to come by.

Look for the  I915GA-HFS or the i915Mm-HFS from aopen - cant seem to find locally yet, but they will be what I use when I get a bit more $$

will start looking! ive since learnt that its a simple matter to use an adaptor to convert s-video to rca so hopefullt that opens the options a little...
