So the analog joystick is still functional after the hack?
Yes. Hacking the PCBs merely extends the digital buttons to the arcade controllers. It does not otherwise affect the remaining controller functions. I sometimes reach through my coin door to tweak the analog stick if I need it to do something and/or I want to see if it does something with a particular game. My exposed controller PCBs are mounted to a sidewall just inside the cabinet.
Might be interesting to try to mount a controller PCB to the bottom of a CP and then mount a very short j/s staff to the analog thumbstick. If it's light enough, not levered out too far, and the throw is minimal, I betcha it could be workable.
HarumaN: I made the mistake of offering to 2 people at the same time. I was holding them to ensure that they go to a good home (i.e., they get hacked and installed into a cab!). I'll sort that out with you in PM.
