DC controller hacks
« on: July 03, 2005, 05:17:01 am »
I was able to get my hands on some DC controllers (thanks Goz!), so for a limited time, I will be offering hacked controllers for $30 a pair shipped to your location (US) or $35 for you Canadians out there.   ;D

Also, I've changed the wire tags to printed stickers instead of masking tape.  Looks less messy, and more professional.  I just don't have a picture of that yet.

PM for details!

GREAT looking hacks!

will you wire for both analog AND digital?  I know a lot of games don't use analog.  But it would have been nice for a few games.

Hey, thanks!  :D

I could wire for analog by hacking the hall effect sensors on the analog stick...  but in doing so, it would make it digital (simply on or off).

Just remember only the original DC and MadKatz controllers are worth trying to hack if you go this route.

No...  these are Madcatz pads, that's why I left the analog on.  On the Sega official controllers, everything can come off.  :)

Still got a few controllers left.  Let me know if you want them!  :)

I have two extra used original Sega controllers that I don't need. I hacked a couple of MadCatz clones instead so these things need to be cleared out eventually. Let me know if you need 'em.

So the analog joystick is still functional after the hack?

Yes. Hacking the PCBs merely extends the digital buttons to the arcade controllers. It does not otherwise affect the remaining controller functions. I sometimes reach through my coin door to tweak the analog stick if I need it to do something and/or I want to see if it does something with a particular game. My exposed controller PCBs are mounted to a sidewall just inside the cabinet.

Might be interesting to try to mount a controller PCB to the bottom of a CP and then mount a very short j/s staff to the analog thumbstick. If it's light enough, not levered out too far, and the throw is minimal, I betcha it could be workable.

HarumaN: I made the mistake of offering to 2 people at the same time. I was holding them to ensure that they go to a good home (i.e., they get hacked and installed into a cab!). I'll sort that out with you in PM.
