apparently it's coming out Xmas '05.

I don't know a thing about this yet...but apparently enough of us wrote to this company (about 6 months ago) to make this happen!

Doesn't say anything on the site about it being MAME compatible though.

When I was at the eRealgames booth at E3, I asked if their eventual PC light gun would be MAME compatible.

The lady said "What is MAME?"

If they use mouse emulation, it'll automatically be MAME compatible (whether they realize it or not).

For the record, I'm skeptical of the accuracy of a wireless device that requires triangulation.

Just wait till youre paying $7 per gallon of petrol like we already do and then you'll know what screwed means.

BTW mame compatible will be nice but I would think TV/Arcade monitor compatible would be more important as I'm sure someone would be able to come up with a work around for mame.

Markp, I believe that the technology works independent of the display. In fact you could point it at a cardboard box and it'll work, as far as I know.

Looks cool, I hope it's the PC solution we've all been waiting for (those of us who love gun games, anyway!)

It's still got thave an input signal with proper resolution and frequency, though. It'll suffer from the same limitations as any other device. The only difference is that it'll play on screen that typically wouldn't work.

You'll have to have their cam mounted above your screen.

Didn't I read somewhere that the accuracy on the PS2 version of this gun was terrible?  I'd also be concerned about how many CPU cycles the triangulation software eats up.  It will be cool to see how this plays out either way.

I read a review that suggested it was fine on an xbox - I think once calibrated its 'reasonably' accurate.

Also, triangulation overhead should not be a problem - so long as they dont send pure video from the camera down the USB connection and then decode it.

The biggest problem with there setup is that with only 3 points for calculation, as soon as you move you body stance/location of the gun, you completely mess up the calibration, and it needs to be recalibrated. This renders it useless to me.

The only similar-technology product that solve this one is the TrackNav/SmartNav products, where they have an option of using a "Vector" addon - which basically means they have several points being tracked on a known shape, giving 6 degrees of freedom, which should mean once calibrated you could probably walk off and get a drink with your pointer and come back and keep shooting.

I sent a few emails back and forth between some of the guys there.

I got the "what is mame" question after asking.

I replied back with a pretty long description of mame, how we build cabinets, what games mame can use, what types of interfaces, ect.  And the competitor products and whats wrong with them.

He replied back saying he would definately have someone there take a look and he was very interested.  He realizes that there are only a few pc games that the guns can be used with and about 40 in mame.

Anyway, I'm VERY STOKED that they redesigned the guns.  They look VERY cool!

I now officially don't care about act labs :)

Make sure you tell him about the mame license and not to use mame for selling the product unless given permission...
also have him lookat act labs software page, quite a few games that are lightgun compatible.

Sounds cool.

Well, its been mentioned in previous threads about this gun that the 3 point tracking system sounded like it would struggle with accuracy....

so I suspect if you were unhappy with the console version, the pc version may not be different - but we won't really know untill it comes out. It appears they are re-designing it too, which is a surprise as the current model already has a USB connection and works with the Xbox...

On the plus side, some reports says its ok for general use, and it should also be able to track in real time (the display device is completely irrelevant) so it could be used for light gun games as well as "joystick" based light gun games like Terminator 2 and others.

Personally I'm hoping one of the open source projects for tracking items with a USB camera is developed more so that it tracks a known object from multiple points. This would hugely improve accuracy as well as remove several repeat-calibration problems.....
