I am still not certain wheather i will angle 3p and 4p sticks, I will have to wait til i mock it up to decide.

Don't wait. Angle them now. And also, there aren't any games that require 6 button configs for players 3 and 4.

Maybe it's just me, but the flippers being on the angle seem like they would cause carpo-tunnels syndrome. In my mind your arms would have to twist in an unnatural way to hit the buttons, which would hurt after a while.

if he is going for a 4 player console cab, then sports games etc. use more than 4 buttons i believe.

yeah, the 6 buttons for 3p and 4p are because of some SNES games would require that many buttons.  I have room on an Ipac4 so why not.

about the flippers, i have seen alot CP's where they are mounted like this, and i have placed my hands like they would be there on my wallboard mock up and it seems ok so far.  you rest your palms on the 45 deg corner and play like you would if it was a 90deg corner..

and about angling the 3p and 4p sticks.... I will have to see.  2p smash TV is rather important to me. but comfort for player 3 and 4 is more important....

thanks guys

Do you have the 27" tv yet as I ran into problems when I made my first cab as I couldn't find a TV that would fit, I ended up using a WG9200 and that only just went in.

I am looking at either  Magnavox 27" TV (27MS3404) which is 23.7 inch's wide and 29.5 inches deep, for 199.99

or

Toshiba 27" Stereo TV with ColorStream DVD Component Video Inputs

Model: 27A34

which says it is  25 5/8 inches wide and only 19 3/4 inches deep.    i think with LuSiDs plans i have 26 inches to work with.

although I am starting to lean towards UAII for somereason so i guess we will have to see.  good thing i haven't started to build yet.

thanks for giving me the idea to check it out.

just bought the router today, i know its not a big step but i got such a good deal i had to brag

i got this one, brand new in box from home depot for 90 bucks..

(click the picture)

I had originally planned on buying the cheapest 50 dollar one.   but then there was this 160 royobi on sale for 129.99,  but then they only had the floor model so that was 99.99.....but thennnnnnn they only had some of the parts, so the store manager came over and said fine we will give you that milwake one for the same price.    thinking it was 129.99.  i was like OK great but the royobi is 99.99 .  and he got kinda flustered.  and went to check the price.  He came back and said ohh ok, ill give you it for that price anyway, and in his fluster, he wrote down $90.00 on the price sheet...
it was awesome.. so i got a brand new 170 dollar milwaukee for 90 bucks when i origionally intended on getting a 50 dollaor POS....AWESOME

I'm off on vacation, then its build build ...play... finishing building

Lucky bastard with that router!  You got yourself a great deal.
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

ok I bought the slot cutters and some jigsaw blades today.  This doesn't call for an update but i figured this would be a good time to ask a question.

I am planing on using a Slick Stick Tornado spinner and a Happs usb Trackball.

I originally thought i was going to use an opti-pac,  but would I need on with my set up.  after more research It seems much harder to use an opti-pac than not use one.

thanks guys

Just a thought about your router bits, it may be a good idea to buy to router kit they sell at home depot.  You will use at least three of those bits in there.  If you calculate the costs of the bits individually then look at the price of the kit, you may get better value for you money; besides, you will have all those bits to use in other projects in the future.

Who should he believe about angling the sticks?

 You?

Or every single company that ever produced arcade games?

Every single 4 player game ever made had UP pointing the same way on all 4 sticks. All of them.

Gauntlet.
Quartet.
All 40 of those 4 player Konami games.
All the 4 player Capcom games.
Even those 4 player snake games from the 70s.
Every 4 player game ever made.

It is probably the only single absolute rule in the industry, UP is the same direction on every joystick, no matter how many of them there are.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Only thing I can suggest if you haven't made any color choices yet.....   Go BOLD with yer color  Orange and yellow, blue and green.  Don't be scared to make it look like a machine for FUN.

And as for your routing skills.  That is rought but the routering happens so fast.  This probably wont be your last project so, now you know.

But keep in mind that T-molding is meant to cover that ugly wood edge anyway and once you put that on you should be fine.   ;D  Congrats on the progress

I also had similar difficulty cutting my t-slot and ended up cutting out the entire area and re-doing it. I don't know if this is an option but it's just a thought if it is really worrying you.

Also, I don't mean to sound patronising, but are you aware that routers only work well when you move them in a clockwise direction? Thought I might mention it as you said you hadn't routed before. Going the wrong direction will definitely end in tears and likely produce problems like you describe.

Don't let it get you down, there ain't nothing that can't be fixed.

You can still fix the routing mishap. Pull out any loose bits of mfd and fill the slot with some bondo or equivalent filler. Let it set and route the slot again.

Note: Only fill the areas your are not happy with.

Should come up good.

On the router topic, rather than try to remember what the instruction book says, just remember that you always want to route AGAINST the direction of the cutter.  Your router should have an arrow on it saying which way it spins (uh, or just look at it when you turn it on).  You *don't* want the router to try to pull itself in the same direction you are cutting, it will be really unstable as you saw.  You want to push the router so that it's spinning agaist the direction you are cutting in.

Also sometimes if you're cutting where half the router or more ends up hanging off the edge of your workpiece, sometimes it's helpful to clamp some scrap of the same thickness around so that the other part of the router has something to rest on.  This will stop it from wanting to fall of the edge of your sheet.

no real update, i put the back panels on, and am working on the keyboard drawer now, should have the base completed by the weekend.  and ill have pictures then.

Its getting time to buy my controls now and i had a question about my dedicated 4 way...

what's the deal with the J-stick.  is that what i am looking for.
I am ordering  basically everything from Andy, and want a good ball top from my 4 way.

I guess I am going to have to rout the bottom of my 3/4 inch CP top to get these to fit good?

thanks guys

Yeah routing the bottom for your joysticks will take you 5 minutes.  Draw the outline of your joystick bases on the bottom after you have drilled.  Then test the depth of your router on a scrap piece really quick and go to town on the bottom of your CP.

I would get the j-stick also just because it has a decent throw, similar to a Happ Super.  Those short throw joysticks (t-stick) just feel foreign to me.

Congrats on your progress btw.

Joysticks are really a matter of personal taste I learned after reading some of the joystick discussions here...

Check out this site for a good J-Stick/ Sanwa review:

Sorry Guys, I know its been a while since the last update, but i have been busy,

mainly trying to figure out a damn color scheme so i can order my buttons and whatnot, and I am pretty sure I have..

but first here is where i am at right now

Here is a general look from the front...

Look Mah, No visible screws :)

here is my CP top just sitting there... its a behemoth, 48x 24 :)
it was going to be 48 by 20 but i felt for Golden tee, i would have some problems...

As you may or may not know, I am pretty sure I have decided on the name Super Nincadeo
here is my first draft of the marquee

I have ordered my red t-moulding, my 3 inch translucent trackball, and i will order my black original head tornado spinner from slikstik later today,

thanks again for stopping by

mike

Looking good my friend, awesome games room too!!

If I were you I would be tempted to move your castors futher apart just to make the cab more stable. Im not saying it wont be stable as it is, it may just prevent any stability issues you have later on.
