« on: June 29, 2005, 01:29:51 am »
i adjust the width coil but i dont see any changes..i kept turning and turning both ways but still get the  same result..and it seem like it doesnt stop at a max point where you cant turn anymore..is my width coil broke or something? and i have this weird problem..when ever i move my character to the all the way right or left of the screen, my character became thinner...

Bob Roberts has an excellent section on his website on adjusting monitor width. Randy Fromm does too.

You haven't mentioned the make & model of your monitor.

In general an amateur should never adjust the B+ controls as 99% of the time it will not be the right thing to do for picture width. Width is adjusted by turning a ferrite (powdered metal) threaded slug inside the width coil. This is done with special PLASTIC hex alignment tools (such as Radio Shack's # 64-2220 or 64-2230). All width coils have the hex hole made to metric standards (as are the special tools are metric too). It may look like you could put an ordinary Allen wrench in there but don't do it as you'll damage/destroy the coil. Some monitor manufacturers (such as Wells-Gardner) like to glue the width coil's slug in place when it was originally adjusted at the factory. In those cases you may think you're actually adjusting the slug, but in reality you're just twisting the tool and nothing is happening. In cases like these then you have to buy a new width coil and replace the existing one. This involves unsoldering the old one and soldering in the new one. Width coils are all different and are specific to each monitor make AND model so don't try putting an Electrohome width coil on a Wells-Gardner. The normal range of adjustment on a width coil will only expand/reduce the width onscreen by 1/2" overall. If more or less width is needed then you have to change the value of the width capacitor. Bob Roberts sells a generic width capacitor kit (assortment).

Some makes/models of monitors (like Kortek) have a jumper wire on the monitor's main circuit board marked "N" and "W" for narrower and wider respectively. So if you need a wider picture simply unplug (while the monitor is off) the jumper from the "N" position and plug it into the "W" position.

he mentioned this"A common incidence of this would be in a G07 chassis that you have recapped & installed a new width coil, but failed to adjust the B+ voltage up to 120 VDC causing a lack of width in the pic that no coil will ever regain for you." i give it another try adjusting the coil..or i might buy a new coil, hopefully Bob has it for WG 25K7193..
btw..do you know where i can find a munual for this monitor..its so hard to find a munual for this type of monitor..

Here's a page you should look at:

www.jstookey.com/arcade/WG_25k7191/

You use the basic k7000 manual and download the 7191/7193 schematic. Use these in conjunction with each other. Your monitor uses the regular k7000 series capacitor kit and I believe it uses the same width coil as the k7000. Some manuals are available to download at www.atarijeff.com
