Place to Get my Cap kit Wells k7401
« on: June 28, 2005, 04:48:07 pm »
I have called wells gardner, and they said i would have to get them from the company....They told me to call this number 800-292-4491 and that the product number was s-kit cap-k75. So i call them and try to order my kit. They tell me they have it and ask me what else i need. I say nothing and they say they have a minimum 50 dollar order. The cap kit is 9.95. He told me to shop around on the net to get the kit.   So im a little dazed and confused right now, and I couldnt even hardly understand the woman at wells. Can someone please help me out here. My monitor is  a wells 27k7401

Thanks,

-Kyle

204     For Wells-Gardner K7000 series 13", 19", and 25" color monitors.
        Includes 15 parts. $6.95 ea.

-----
Thats the closest they have. My monitor is a 27inch, so therefore those kits wont work.....right?

No that kit is not for your monitor! The 7400 and 7500 are completely different than the k7000 series.

The k7400 and k7500 are current production models and as such, you have to purchase from Wells-Gardner or one of their authorized distributors such as Happ Controls, Betson-Imperial, Mazzco, Amusements Plus, Penn-Ray, Competitive Products, etc. You'll have to bite the bullet and make the minimum order requirements. Maybe you have some friends that might need some parts from the Wells-Gardner parts dept and you could pool an order?

I've "heard" that Bob Roberts is starting to sell his own version of this kit now, but I can't verify that for a fact. By the way, the 7400 and 7500 use the same capkit.

I tried buying a capkit for my k7200 Rev. A from WG, but they wouldn't sell it to me because I wasn't a business. They referred me to mazzco which only had the regular 7200 capkit. I ended up just getting out my allied electronics parts catalog and order them from their website (they don't have a minimum order or service charge).

I also tried to get one from bob with my last order. I told him I needed a Rev. A 7200 kit, and he just sent a regular one (I think one capacitor is the same) ::)

I ordered my Capkit for my 27k7401 but I am still in need for somekind of capkit guide....Someone told me to get a manual but the lady at Wells said the really dont have a manual for this monitor just a schematic sheet (which i already have). She directed me to www.age-gaming.com for the support for my monitor, but it turns out they don't even have my model of monitor in the wells support section. Please help, thanks,

Okay, I called wells back, and said i wanted the service manual for the k7400 series. She tells me they dont sale it anymore. I told her I have a part number she could look up to make sure, she insisted they did not have it. She then directed me AGAIN to age-gaming.com yada yada look on that site and they will have a repair guide. They have one on that site for the 25" but not the 27" will this matter? Please help me,

-Kyle

ps: the capkit for this monitor that i ordered has now came in...so i really want to get this done.

If you dealt with Ms. Rae Watkins at Wells-Gardner then go over her head to a supervisor. She is sometimes as dumb as a box of rocks. Tell the supervisor to enter the part number I gave you. They might call it a "product manual" instead of a service manual and it generally covers ALL versions of the 7400 series regardless of tube size.

I just took a look at my capkit.  Are there suppose to be ALL CAPS in the capkit? I have some on my monitor that arent in the bag, actually theres quite a bit missing.  Do capkits not include all caps on the monitor?

A capkit generally includes all the capacitors that are known to cause problems on a particular model. Not every cap on your chassis is included. It's too bad I haven't had occasion to work on a 7400 or a 7500. I'd make up my own capkit. I'm surprised the Wells kit didn't have an instruction sheet with it. If need be, call the tech support dept at Wells and talk to a live tech. A tech there ought to be able to tell you which caps go where in that kit.

Okay I just tried to order that freakin manual for the 8TH! time. I left Kurt Wolf an voice mail which still has not been returned. I give up. Can i do this on my own w/out having the manual? There was a sheet that came with the kit that said which caps to install, but not much instruction. Can I not just find the type of cap it is on the board unsolder it, and then replace it. I hope that made since. write back if you could/

Several websites have capkit installation instructions if you just google around for them. There's even a guy on ebay that sells a cd rom of how to do a capkit for beginners.

I was pulling a cap out that I thought i was suppose to replace, turns out i was suppose to pull the one next to it. So now i have pulled out the wrong cap, and i kind of crushed it. The cap that is ruined is a 2.2 200v so I called radio shack to see if they have it. They dont but they do have a 2.2 250v. Will this work?

Funny, but my Radio Shack catalog doesn't show them as having any electrolytic capacitors above 50 volts.

If they do indeed have that 250 volt one then you're fine as you can always sub a higher voltage cap.

Thanks ken. Also I couldnt find one of the caps that was said needed replacing (C115). This cap kit is also for the k7500, and I just guessed that that part my be irrelevant to my 7400. Am i wrong?

It's very possible that the one cap may not be used on the 7400.

I just installed my capkit, and it looks great! The picture is not longer bent and the colors jump out.  Im having one problem. It looks awesome on the desktop, but when I open mame up and play a game it starts to do a type of vertical scan like i need to apply the vhold. I know its not my monitor though, due to the fact the desktop of the computer looks awesome. I think i installed a new version of mame a while back, so what do i need to apply in the mame.ini file to get the pic problem away (it seems like its the resolution that is the problem in mame....). After you guys help me work this one out, i will post some before and after pics for reference for anyone having the similiar problem.  Thanks,

Turns out it was the v hold. I am still having a bit of  pincushion issues, is there anyway to completely get the edges straight (if not its definately better than it was!)? When i fine tune the pincushion adjustments on the pincushion board it kind of either wants to do a whole lot of adjusting or none at all, could the pots be worn out? Also I am having the blurry picture problem afer about 5 mintues...What do i need to take care of this (the focus adjustment on the high voltage rig?). Thanks guys,

Heres an update.

I tried adjusting the focus on the high voltage unit, and It looks better, but it seems to still be blurry on the corners. I have seen post of people having the same problem. Do I need a new flyback? Since I have put a new cap kit in im thinking it has to do with the voltage...Let me know what you guys think.

Yes, the flyback generates the high focus voltage (4,000 to 8,000 volts!). The flyback can go bad internally so that it can't deliver (or intermittently delivers) the proper focus voltage. Also the focus wire that goes from the flyback into the picture tube socket on the neckboard can develop a bad solder connection. You generally have to unsolder the entire tube socket to get to the tabs that hold the socket together to get to the focus wire connection on some tube sockets.

So the next step is a new flyback? Would the flyback cause only the corners to go bad, wouldnt it look blurry everywhere? How hard it is to replace, and where can i get one? Are they universal, or do i have to get one for my exact model?
Also I do have a hacked job on the input voltage. Think that could cause it? Where can I get some new input plugs for the AC?
