Stargate project...

Due to inspiration started by the Moon Patrol project, I've decided to
try reclaiming a bastardized Stargate.

Used "Goof Off 2" to start stripping the old paint. Sprayed the cabinet down, let it sit for 5-10 minutes then used a plastic putty knife to remove the first layer.

Tried using a nylon scrub brush on the first layer but all it did was, well, remove the top layer.

Thanks guys. Does anyone have Williams paint codes for Stargate? I'm certainly going to need to repaint/touch up the art in places and I'd like to get as close as possible to the original colors. I checked out one site, but he had codes for a lot of other Williams cabs, just not Stargate.

My Pleasure.  FYI, the first Stargate I one I did.  Cut out the stencils by hand and took about 1 month to trace, cut and finally get the cabinet painted.

I used large sheets of picture matting from Aaron Brothers.

I was at a huge arts/crafts store on Firday (Wife HAD to stop. Matter of life or death or so she said... probably mine. ) and they had some plastic stencil material. I picked up 5 pieces for $1.50 a piece. I SHOULD have enough to do the whole cabinet. I'm hoping that all the graphics mirror (easy flip of the stencil) aside from the stargate title, which does not.

Have to wait and see. I plan on at least partially stripping the other side so I can use the original graphics as a template.

Yes, if you do them right, the black might flip.
