What kind of problem is this?

Have a problem with the monitor in my Satan's Hollow project that I have the feeling is probably minor, but I'm not sure how to go about correcting...  The picture seems to be the correct size on the screen, but there is a black bar across the bottom (what would ordinarily be the side) where the image is just cut off...  Not squished down, but actually cut off.  Compare the attached picture with the screenshot at http://images.webmagic.com/klov.com/screens/S/ySatan's_Hollow.png - there should be more to the image below the "shield" text, but it's cut off below there.

Is this something that can be adjusted somehow, or something that a cap kit would fix?  I'm not quite sure what to make of it.

What kind of monitor and vid card are you using? Could be a resolution problem or a monitor setting. I checked the project announcement forum to see if your's was there but didn't find anything.

It's not a MAME(tm) compatible machine, it's an original...  Sorry for the ambiguity. 

I believe the monitor is either a WG or a G07 - the manual seems to indicate it could be either.  I'll have to pull it out and crack it open when I get home to be sure exactly which.

Just look for a name or model number somewhere on the frame. No need to go pulling the whole thing out.

Try adjusting the horiz centering tabs on the monitor main board. Maybe even the horiz hold/horiz freq controls.

Just meant pulling the machine out from the wall, but I'll keep that in mind...  I really need to learn to watch my wording around here.

Verified that the monitor is the Wells Gardner (looks like a K4600 by Bob Roberts' monitor ID page).  The only adjustments I see on the main boards are H Hold, V Hold and V Size...  Don't see an adjustment for H Centering anywhere.  Downloaded a manual for the monitor, and it wasn't much help.

Have a more detailed pic of the image being cut off - it's not just pushed off the bottom of the screen, it actually just stops.  Also took a (bad) one of the monitor chassis if anyone would care to verify that it is or is not a K4600.  It's pretty distinctive looking, with the two little riser boards off the main board.

While I'll not rule out that possibility, it is worth noting that the shield text does overlap the extra ships when everything is working properly...  Reference the KLOV screenshot posted above.  The pictures aren't the best in the world (using a camera phone since my digital camera is out of town at the moment), but looking at the actual picture on the screen, it looks great (nothing odd or wrong) right up to the point where it cuts off abruptly about an inch and a half from the bottom (side) of the monitor.  Comparing the screenshots to the actual picture, I think the top portion is displayed completely (seems to be the right amount of space above the score text), but just pushed down the screen a bit.

I think Ken is probably in the right area with the centering adjustments - like the entire display could be adjusted to be further down (left) on the screen and then the video recentered upward (right), maybe.  I just don't see any place to make adjustments to try this.

Checked for K4600 tips on Bob Roberts' page, but I'll I'm seeing is the cap maps and a lot of tips for G07's...

There's no knob for horizontal centering on that monitor. It uses tabs like Ken mentioned. It's actually a wire that can plug into 1 of 3 spots. Try moving it to one of the other spots to see if that helps. Sorry I don't have a picture to show you which wire.
