Metalhead has a FE/monitor issue :o
« on: June 24, 2005, 03:01:13 pm »
OK fellas, here it is. Lets start with what I'm running, then we'll get to the issue I'm having:

  • MSI mobo/Athalon 64 3000+
  • 256 Ram
  • ArcadeVGA (the newer model)
  • 25" Hantarex Polo tube with 8liners chassis
  • Windows XP Corp Edition.

I have MameWah, GameLauncher, and AtomicFE setup on a fresh XP install. The video on the desktop is set to 640x480 (the lowest Windows allows), and the screen size/position/refresh rate are set. All 3 emulators work fine booting up, running games, and exiting back to the desktop.

The problem:
While in any of the FEs, if I select a game like Mario Brothers (1983) it runs fine, but if I select something newer (25kHz?) like Marvel vs Capcom, it stretches vertically and throws the refresh rate out the window (the image jitters up and down).

Is there a paramater I've missed somewhere in all 3 FEs to prevent this from happening, or could it be something hardware related, like my monitor or the AVGA?

The pots on the monitor are fine. Windows has no issues. Its only when I play roms like MvC or MvSF

Did you use the ArcadeVGA tool to assign the resolutions for each game?  I'm pretty sure MvC and MvSF are both standard (15 kHz) resolution games so they should run fine on your monitor.  Check your .ini files for those games and compare the video settings in the .ini to make sure the correct resolution is set (MAME tells you the correct res. on the information screen when the game is launched).
