Looks great.  Cant wait to see how this one turns out.

Space Invaders had one of the coolest looking themes.

Where'd you get the fan and speaker grills?

Is that laminate or a vinyl overlay?

Thanks,

I don't think that's possible. When the table top is in position, the side walls of the cabinet would be right under the alien.

Hey man, you should really optimize those pictures, it takes forever for them all to load because half of them are almost 1meg EACH!

Here's your first one.

Any time I take a picture to put online, I take it at 640x480 to avoid that problem altogether.

It's not the dimensions of the picture here that make the difference.  The origial picture actually was already at 640x480.

Where'd you get the fan and speaker grills?

Is that laminated wood or a vinyl overlay?

Also, what size and brand of monitor is that?  I am doing an arcadedepot.com cabinet now and I may end up using a computer monitor instead of an original (for cost reasons).  That looks really good so far.  And let me know when the DVD documentation is done, I want one.

Thanks,
-Dweebs

Hi m8,

The monitor is a 19" Mitshibushi Diamondtron. Took it out of its case. Picked it up quite cheaply from a local recycle centre.

The covering on the cabinet is fablon.

DVD is coming on nicely. Will let u know when it's available

I love the chrome and black look but I question whether fablon will be durable in the long term.

Can you tell me where you got the overlay printed?

Thanks in advance.

Ok, I am following this thread closely and doing alot of the same things.

I just decased a 19 inch monitor for use in my cab.

How did you mount yours?

Is it ok to build a shelf and have it lie on the metal cage?

Should I put it back in the plastic case (minus the top bezel)?

Can you remove that tape from the monitor or will the monitor come apart at that point?

Thanks again for the pointers.  Cab is looking great!  Very inspiring.

If these questions are "hijacking" your thread, let me know and I'll stop asking.

Thanks again,
-Dweebs

WIP....

The top is not attached yet. Gonna paint the top black so there is no MDF colour showing..

Quick question for u chaps... the monitor I am using is very flat.... The bezel is more for a curvy arcade monitor...any suggestions on how I can get the bezel closer to the monitor?

Installed a Black Dell 19" monitor.

Used a router to create a groove for the bezel.

P1 controls soldered and working.

To do:

P 2 controls
p1 and p2 buttons
Get coin door working
Rebuild PC

Thanks for the cool comments.

I purchased the coin door from www.pinballheaven.co.uk

Still a few more things to do before this cab is finished:

1) Solder up P2 controls
2) Get coin door working
3) Get P1 + P2 buttons working
4) Screw down control panels with mirror screws

And thats it.

I have installed Windows XP trial version on the cabinet with MAME 0.73.

Stuck a 16mb Nvidia card in the PC which makes all the difference. With the on-board graphics card the games are chuggy, the sound choppy and the graphics are blocky. With the Nvidia Card everything is super smooth.

Played it last night and am WELL pleased how it plays.

I am even considering hacking my Ms Pacman Cabinet to pieces and building one like this for myself with the re-usable bits (This cabinet is for someonelse by the way!)
