that tank game

i remember playing this old tank game about 6 years ago at an arcade.......

- it was a top-down 2D scroller
- used 2 joysticks to control the tank
- had SNES-esque graphics so could've been made around 1987-1993

ABSOLUTELY.  This is my all time favorite arcade game.
It was ahead of its time, with amazing scaling effects when hovering over jump pads.   It is a GREAT game!

Are the HAPP top fire joysticks adequate for this?  Are they beefy like the supers, or are they plastic and hollow?
"3 warps to Uranus" -- so I stopped playing!

YES! Assault ROX! I found this game at a local bar a year or two ago and was stoked!

also, they had Rolling Thunder, which has been a thorn in my side for a long time. :o

Happ top fire buttons will obviously play the game, but most who have tried them say they are too lightweight for gaming (and are really designed for crane skill games).

I still want a dedicated Assault.. they used to have a cockpit version at my local Wal-Mart when I was little 8)

Happ has a couple of top fire joysticks.

The one called "Fire button compact joystick" is the one I see on crane games all the time.

The other one, "Top fire super joystick", is every bit as rugged as the standard Super joystick.  The handle is a bit odd-shaped, but isn't too bad.  I don't think I would want to use one for the primary joystick on a control panel, though.

BTW - there's an Assault on eBay right now, but the sides of the control panel area look a little beat up, so does the t-molding- http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3214783047&category=13716

Remember assault has 4way joysticks.  One of about two games with dual 4way joysticks according to here: http://www.mameworld.net/cgi-bin/wwwthreads/showpost.pl?Board=mameworldemuadvice&Number=11281

Having restrictor plates really helps control a lot, IMO, but buy another restricter plate for just two games?   Not including cocktail games of course, since cocktail sticks are supposed to be on opposite sides of the cocktail cab. ;)
