50" mitsubishi projection screen
« on: June 20, 2005, 11:58:07 am »
Hey everybody, I'm having trouble with my 50" mitsubishi projection screen tv.  Model number is mitsubishi vs 50va1

I had originally picked up 2 of these from an arcade auction about a year ago, and after a little tweaking, they both worked fine. I installed a PIP by-pass circuit because the sync was off (bad caps), that fixed the veritical /horizontal rolling issue I was having.

Last week, one of my TV's lost it's picture. The audio comes through, but there is no picture for any input, no OSD, nothing. I took the back off the TV, and there is no glow coming from the 3 neck guns. When I turn on the TV, I can hear a high pitched repeating whine coming from somewhere near the power board.
That whine makes me think it's a bad HOT or Flyback, or something associated with the HOT circuitry. I had a simular problem with a WG chassis where a cap near the HOT had gone bad, and the automatic XRay protection circuitry had kicked in.

I hate to through away a nice TV like this. Anyone have any pointers for repair? Or a rough estimate on how much something like this would be to repair?

Thanks in advance.
