S-video video card
« on: December 13, 2002, 01:52:56 am »
Have started to get prices for the pc to go in the cab and am looking at the Radeon 8500LE.  The problem I have is that in the land down under we only get powered by ATI and not built by ATI.  Or if they are built by ATI they are very expensive.  So I'm looking at getting a Sapphire Radeon 8500LE or the Hercules Prophet 3D 8500LE.  Can anyone provide some advice on this topic.  A few people have recommended the Sapphire but they mainly deal with 3d gaming through the monitor and not tv.

Little help?

Cheers

ATI and Hercules' cards are pretty similar,
Hercules still uses the same Rage Theater chip for the S-Video output .http://www.tech-report.com/reviews/2002q1/prophet-8500le/index.x?pg=1

"ATI's Rage Theater chip handles the TV output, and its picture quality is almost as good as the quality of the picture I was able to snap of the chip. (Quite good to my eyes, in other words.)"

Thanks generousben (your name says it all).  I think I might go for the hercules card then.  Unless anyone can point out that there are better cards with s-video out at a similar price.
