Like new MAMEWAH - little help?
« on: June 18, 2005, 12:46:29 pm »
Yep, I find the new config program easy enough to use, but I've got a problem that I cannot recall how to fix.  Looked for it in search, but haven't really seen anything pertaining to this.

I'm running MAME(tm)32FX and on some games the image that comes up on my TV is too huge - you can't see the entire image!

I'm now updating to v 1.61 of MAMEWAH.  I know there's a way to fix it, because I did it once with MAMEWAH 0.97, and it was by adjusting screen size in MAMEWAH, but I can't find that in the new program.  Anyone know where it is?

Thanks!

If your talking about image size while "in game" then it has nothing to do with MameWAH. It must be a setting in your mame.ini (or whatever it called for that version). The tool mentioned in the previous post may be able to do what your looking for.

I'm going to try the res tool first then...does the GUI for the windows version of MAME(tm) 32FX and MAMEWAH just not like each other?  Every time I try and fix it within FX, it resets itself to AUTO display after MAMEWAH is launched.

Is mamewah running when you are making the changes in FX? if it is, mamewah locks all the files so it wont save any changes. Try running Fx on its own when you make changes

Hey Daddy

Mamewah is one of the easiest FE's to set up, and I am pretty dense...lol...Why don't you try and download a DOS version of mame and run that along side Mamewah and see if you get the same problem.

If you don't then it must be Mame32 that is the problem (running alongside Mamewah).

Worth a try!

Hey M.A.M.E Power,

Great suggestion, but I'd already beat you to the punch, so to speak.  I decided last night to try that very thing.

At first this morning, I had the same problem...and I thought, this is ridiculous.  However, combining information in this thread, I decided to try and adjust the MAME config settings first.  Tried screen res I don't know how many times...nothing helped.

Then, sanity took over.  I spotted a little line in MAME config that is near the top labeled "hwcontrol" or something like that.  I noticed it was set to "1" (on).  I thought to myself, I'm going to turn that "Off" and see what happens.

The result - PROBLEM SOLVED!

It's just trial and error sometimes I suppose...but again thanks for the encouragement!

Ok, so I got that problem sorted out...now I've got a timing problem.  It may just be trial and error again though, but thought I'd throw it out / up here.

Couldn't get the vertical hold to match up, so I used MAMEWAH res program to help.  This created an interesting problem in that while fixing the vertical, it caused both in game characters to look as if they were having nervous breakdowns they were moving so fast!

What did I do? Pick too high a frequency? Once I did this, I couldn't get them to slow  back down!

I think what I'm going to do is try again (stubborn, I guess) - once I've recovered from a day's worth of banging my head against the wall - and try and apply my settings from MAME32FX (tm) to the windows command version of MAME (tm) and see what happens.  To me it makes NO sense that MAME32FX (tm) works perfectly but I can't even get the command line version to work as it should.

Hit F11 in game and see if it is running too fast (eg 300/60fps).  If so, your throttle may be turned off - hit F10 to toggle.  If this is the case you'll need to set 'throttle 1' in your \mame\mame.ini file.

Thanks for your help - I'll try that and see what happens.

Sorry to have to ask so many questions, but I really like the program Min...just having trouble setting it up, I guess.  It seems like when I get one wheel put back on the bus, the wheel on the opposite side decides to fall off (again?) :)
