Has anyone build their own arcade cabinet based on a SNES?
« on: June 14, 2005, 09:25:04 am »
I ran a search for Super Nintendo but didn't come up with anything.
I'd like to build a Street Fighter Cab and am thinking the easiest/ most cost efficient way would be to hack some super nintendo controlers and run SNES in the cab.
Has anyone done this or know of any examples?

Thanks!

A real SNES or an SNES emulator?

I'm sure it's been done, it's certainly not a difficult thing to do by arcade standards.

Didn't Nannu or was it someone else do a NES when he was like 10?

Picture is even in one of the Nintendo Power's I have laying around here.

I would think you could buy a real SF cab, for around the same price.

No way.  You could find an empty cab, put a TV and SNES in it, hack the pads, and be all set in one weekend and have laid out way less than $100.  19" TVs are free all day long, SNES are easy to come by and cheap, and once you know where to look so are empty cabs.

Yep, but I didn't hack the controllers.  I used the original NES pad, Max and Advantage.  I know I've seen someone hack a SNES somewhere.  Just can't remember how I got there.

Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

Duuude, I remember that article! I was completley amazed at what you managed considering your age!

You must be the grand-daddy-o of cab building! I take my hat off to you!  :D

I believe RayB actually built an SNES-based cab.  Can't remember if he had pics or not though.

Nannuu,

Was your cab featured in Nintendo Power Magazine?????
If so I remember reading about it when I was a kid!

Anyway, if anyone knows any resources for hacking the SNES game pads that would be much info.

Thanks!

Not step-by-step but u can discern what connects where from it.

People should check out the main site in addition to the forums though

Yep it was.  I was (and still am) a huge dork :).  You can see better pics of it on my site www.willyliliana.com.

Sorry I'm not much help with the SNES hack though.

Yes, I made one back in '92.

Here's my thread on it:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,32480.0.html

It's been a long time, but let me know if you have any questions. I used the real arcade monitor the cab came with. The 2 original arcade speakers, and I hacked 2 controllers to use arcade controls.
