WTB - Good 27" vga arcade monitor
« on: December 11, 2002, 02:11:52 pm »
Looking for a 25-27" monitor for mame cabinet... (not built yet!)

I would like the following:

1) 25-27" screen size
2) Ability to run windows/pc games in 640x480 resolution
3) must be VGA CRT
4) work excellent with MAME32! :)

I'm pretty new to this stuff so go easy on me :)  let me know if I need to provide any more information...

basically want a nice sized, good quality display.  Budget is probabliy about 500-600 bucks plus or minus...

Also.. wells gardner monitors... how flat/curved is the CRT surface?

I don't imagine it would be as flat as a trinitron, but I don't expect that, especially given it's picture..

how flat/curved is it?

well..if you mesure it..actual viewable wont be 27" for sure..because download the file(the pdf file that shows about mounting) where it says how big it actually is..its roughly around 25" with the bracet and a its for 27" cabinets because 27" company built cabinets have around 25" inside.and that monitor fits perfectly.
dont be weird man..the thing is already huge anyways ;).
one of my very close friend has one.

from http://www.arcadecontrols.com/arcade_monitors.shtml

"The D9200 is a 27" with a max resolution of 640 x 480 per specification, though there have been claims of 800x600.  All these monitors have the "scan line" look of traditional arcade monitors, which means authentic arcade game feel, but less than stellar Windows quality.  Recommended for straight arcade emulation, not recommended for playing other games such as Quake/TombRaider/etc...
"

anyone who has a WG monitor, do the scan-lines get in the way of Quake etc?

The higher the vertical resolution, the smaller the scanlines.  You should really see them if you run it at a true 15khz.  They will be much smaller/less visible at 31khz.

Regarding PC games using arcade controls... Plan on trying to get it to work just for fun/having the option.  Some gamed don't require much to control... but definatly will have a mouse/keyboard tray... thinking on wireless optical...  that way i can remove it from the tray if it's more comfortable..

Is there anything that *doesn't* look good on this monitor??

Are there any good reviews out there to read on it? (i've looked but not found much)

I have pics of the one i put in the cab i built:
arcade.tomvanhorn.com

The thing simply is AWESOME.  It does everything right out of the box.  It is 27" diagonally, measured like TV's.
Anyways I have XP going on it which needs a minimum of 800x600 so that's that.  Even at that resolution the type looks huge.  It's bright, colorful, easy, but extremely heavy and cumbersome(it IS 27).  I sold the cab for some $$$.
You should have seen the box it came in.  Delivered by freight. it was huge.
Good luck!

I don't plan using windows too too much(it's about the games right!!).. and yes.. 640x480 on my 21" PC monitor is huge.. I can only imagine on 27"!!

I'm salivating!
